Please educate yourself on Tankies. They're a bunch of fascist genocide apologists that are quite literally as bad as Nazis. Similar hateful ideology, just as fascist, same tactics of mass genocide, and they believe they are morally correct in anything they do because they're anti-Capitalism and anti-Western nations.

It's a little more than "liking Stalin". Genocide is merely a means to an end in an effort to establish a Socialist nation and as long as it is helping progress towards a Socialist state then it is morally correct to do so in their world view.

E:

Tiananmen Square massacre? Never happened - that's Western propaganda.

The Uyghur genocide? Not a genocide - the Uyghur are religious extremists and deserve to be imprisoned. Please stop listening to Western propaganda.

Holodomor? More Western propaganda that never happened.

Hong Kong? They need to stop being children and accept that Hong Kong is part of China. The protests are anti-China propaganda being paid for by the US and Britain to make China look bad.

Russia is defending itself from Ukraine aggression and like always - Western nations are quick to interfere and turn it into anti-Russia propaganda.

JonEFive,

CalcKey is another microblogging platform (Like Mastodon or Twitter) but it has a lot of extra features. It federates directly with any other activity pub app, so you can follow people on Mastodon from CalcKey and vice-versa.

For a very over-simplified explanation - think of it as the same thing as Mastodon but with a different interface. If you're curious, you really just have to sign up and play around with a couple to see what you like. Or just go with Mastodon if you want something more tried-and-true.

As to how CalcKey relates to Lemmy and Kbin - they all can interact with eachother to some extent, but they don't all have the exact same feature set. Think of it this way: Imagine if reddit, instagram, facebook, and twitter could all interact with eachother. For example, you might be able to see twitter posts from facebook, but that twitter post might look a little more plain or be formatted differently on the facebook side. Or similarly, Facebook doesn't have the concept of a downvote, so if you viewed a Reddit post from Facebook, you wouldn't see any downvotes. The same is true for viewing a Kbin post from CalcKey or Mastodon.

What you really need to know: Don't worry too much about all the in-depth details of federation. Yes, these sites can all interact with eachother, but realistically you'll want different apps for different things.

Here are some popular fediverse alternatives to big name sites:
Reddit: Kbin, Lemmy
Twitter: Mastodon, MissKey, CalcKey, Pleroma or dozens of others
Instagram: Pixelfed
Facebook: Friendica

Apparently Reddit has now banned a subreddit dedicated to the Fediverse Reddit-alternative Kbin:

If you're on a centralised platform like Reddit, this is what they can do. Centralised platforms have all-powerful leaders who can do whatever they want, and you have no alternatives if you disagree.

The point of the Fediverse being on lots of servers is that each server's power is limited. If you disagree with one server's actions, you can move.

kukkurovaca,

So, there are some different levels/kind of keyboard that may be more "ergonomic" than a traditional one. Howe weird are you looking to get?

Re: budget, ergo boards tend to be low-cost DIY kits, but you generally have to do a fair bit of soldering. You can also get prebuilts, but they're not super cheap since it's not like, assembly line production in most cases, it's one person building it by hand. There are some exceptions that are more production, but they won't be as cheap apart form like a Keyboardio Atreus or a Planck or Preonic

  • Alice layout: Normie layout "unisplit" with a slight split and angle on it. Will be easy to adjust to, minimal ergonomic difference from regular board. But having split spacebar is a big win in itself to be honest.
  • Regular board, but split, such as a Quefrency or Sinc from Keebio. Layout isn't ergonomic for your fingers, but you can put them at whatever angle suits your wrist, and you can tent them as well (angle the halves)
  • Basic ortholinear. All keys are in a grid, like Planck, Preonic, XD75, MechWild Waka. Layout is arguably a bit more ergonomic than regular, will require more adjustment. Many of these boards are not split, although some are.
  • Columnar stagger: Each column is a different height, reflecting the different lengths of your fingers. More ergonomic. Mostly split boards like Corne, Kyria, Sofle, Lily, Iris, Ergodox, Moonlander, with some unisplit boards like Reviung and Atreus. You can use this tool to compare layouts
  • Keywell/Dactyl: Keys are positioned in a bowl like shape, three-dimensionally. Examples Dactyl, Kinesis Advantage, MoErgo Glove. These will be a lot more expensive if you want someone else to build them for you.

There are tons of different options out there, so you'll wan to start by narrowing down what kind of layout you want and how DIY you want the build to be. The actual builds are mostly pretty straightforward, but most ergo kits do require you to solder diodes and controllers, not just switches. And some of the more esoteric ones have a higher difficulty level, like the keywell boards.

Ortho and columnar stagger boards will take time to learn to type on at speed. Many users also take the opportunity to learn a new non-qwerty layout at the same time since they need to build new muscle memory anyway.

You'll want to pay attention to the layouts when you are picking keycaps. Many ergo boards use all 1u, or 1u plus a couple of spacebars. However, others use ergodox-style layouts with several keys of other sizes. Kitting can be difficult if you want all your keycaps to correspond exactly to what you have those keys assigned to do. Life will be easier if you are a touch typist and willing to make use of blanks or novelties.

They saw Lemmy becoming successful, corporate mistook Lemmy with Lemmings, and decided to go out Lemmings style.

...jokes aside, Cory Doctorow has a great text about that, called "Tiktok's enshittification". It's a four-steps process:

  1. The platform is good for its users.
  2. The platform abuses the users, to be good for its business customers.
  3. The platform abuses the business customers, to claw back all value for itself.
  4. The platform dies.

In my opinion it's also the result of management being disconnected from the platform that it manages, and not knowing fully the implications of their own decisions.

Late Stage Capitalism.

knighthawk0811,

they are realizing that if they want to maximize profits they don't actually need to maximize users.

Mac,

I'm fine with no porn. It gets so tiring seeing porn and pseudo-porn everywhere.

Porn should stay in dedicated instances so it can be blocked. NSFW tagging is unreliable at best.

There is also a similar list on: https://the-federation.info/platform/73

maltfield,

oh shit I wish I knew that existed before XD

Yes, it uses a standard called NodeInfo2 that many Fediverse projects and XMPP / Matrix etc. expose.

jbaber,

Is it autogenerated like this one?

abraxas,

Shooting for this. It's not beautiful but it's not ugly:

Gonna have to dance around the i8n library for this PR, but it shoudl be possible.

d3Xt3r,

Sorry OP, but your links don't work for me. Reading this on kbin and all your links are 404'ing.
