So, if I'm following correctly, Lemmy currently is experiencing a massive wave of bot registrations, and now about 800 thousand new registered accounts across several different instances are bots. What is kbin doing to prevent that, other than just being somewhat smaller and not picking up as much attention?

I do gunpla building, and the one thing you see most builders, regardless of level, immediately want to go for, is a pair of good single-bladed nippers. Usually the holy grail are the God Hand japanese brand nippers, as they perform a very clean and close cut to remove the plastic nubs off the parts, but other less expensive options exist. Sure, there are many different ways to deal with the plastic nubs that stay when you cut off a part from the runner, but the one tool almost everyone goes for, are those nippers. Usually, to the point of keeping two pairs, one to clip parts off the runner, and one just to cut off the nubs.

Fediverse migrants are a self-selecting group

Point being, all of us that are here are the ones cool enough to come here. We are unified by the desire for a better social media that is not-for-profit and user driven. And that makes this community unique compared to the scabs advocating for Reddit. The people who will belong here will come here. :)

Funnily enough, I've met most of my current online friends on Reddit. With this whole situation happening, I was the only one out of them that got pissed off enough to actually move over to the fediverse. I know they're all good people that could engage with content, but they're not particularly interested in making the move here. I hope with some more time, this place will be more appealing as an alternative to them, and to more people like them.

Is it already that time of the week? Well, I'm still playing BOTW, Dead Cells on my Switch, Dawn of War Unification mod on the PC, and some Omega Strikers on the side, slowly climbing the ranked ladder. I'm thinking I can make Gold rank before the end of the season.
Also taking a moment to get back into shmups, I popped onto Mushihimesama and Dodonpachi yesterday and I wiped before even the third bosses, I'm super rusty.

Browsing other domains with Lemmy

With kbin, for example, you can go to kbin.social/d/beehaw.org and view the entirety of Beehaw's communities within kbin itself. I know that you can subscribe to particular communities on other instances, but I'd like to be able to view all of kbin's domain from within Beehaw on one page. Just wondering if Lemmy has this same...

Okay, I saw this post from beehaw, but I wanted to comment from the kbin side because I was surprised that this is a kbin functionality. This is so cool! Seems like it's a kbin only thing for now. Will definitely use it in the future.

Did the reddit hivemind do a 180 or are the people left behind just the people who don't care.

Prior to the protest reddit was in full support of the protest. Most polls on subs supported a shutdown. Now, seemingly every community cant understand why the protest was needed and they're calling it a mod power trip. There is a 3rd possibility. This is an unfounded conspiracy but reddit themselves could be manipulating...

Almost exactly same situation as you. I'm mad, it hurts, I've already purged my Reddit account of all content on it, multiple times since the most recent posts kept getting restored. The account itself isn't deleted yet, I still think I'll keep coming back for some stuff that just isn't here on Lemmy or kbin yet... But as for participating in discussions and communities, I'm now 100% here.
It's just sad. I've met the majority of my current online friend group that I chat with everyday on Discord, through Reddit. I hope at some point that becomes a real possibility in the Fediverse too. That we gather enough weirdos that are way too much into niche things that you can select which of them you'd like to be friends with.

I'm already not using Twitch much at all because of that. Even with an ad-blocking extension on the browser, it's an awful and infuriating experience. You can see how frequent and how long the ad breaks are even through the adblocking. When I use it on my phone that has no blocking, it's just... I click a random stream to see what the streamer is doing and I get locked into 3 minutes of ads before I can even see that. I usually just back out and close the app when that happens.

The gameplay action looked really good from the trailer, very fast and snappy. And I'm already an enjoyer of metroidvanias. The artstyle and the trailer, however... Were not very good and reeked of Ubisoft trying too hard to "be hip with the kids".

I might pick this game up on sale eventually.

Ooh the first game that really blew my mind on the PC was Homeworld Cataclysm. I spent so many hours as a kid just going back and forth in the tutorial section of the demo, making a huge space fleet with no pressure, just gawking at the beautiful space backgrounds, the cool spaceships and their visual effects of thrusters, lasers and beam cannons.
It's still one of my favorite strategy franchises and games of all time.

Ahh I see. Yeah that looks great. Kbin seems to still be figuring itself out with how it works between itself and Lemmy. Well guess I'll look more into this community through my Lemmy accounts then!

Okay for my little tip to contribute here, is that you can use foam blocks of fingernail polish/buffers to give a final polish after you sand down the nub marks, for a smoother finish that resembles more the original texture of the plastic. Those simple and cheap ones that have multiple colored sides, those work great.
Other than that, it's nice to diversify your methods of removing nubs. I have a rough nipper to cut parts off the runner, a single-bladed chinese nipper (much cheaper than a God Hand) to clip off the nub, then I either do the final step with a hobby blade or a DSPIAE glass file, then sand down the surface with sandpaper grits 800-2000. If even after all of that there's still a white stress mark visible on the plastic, you can put on a tiny touch of color with a sharpie or Gundam Marker to hide it.

Also keep some 99% Isopropyl alcohol handy when you go do panel lining, it's good for cleaning out excess ink.

Problem being, many games are starting to use more streaming-type continuous loading for seamless open world games, and those are definitely going to be affected by the lack of an SSD.

Patient gaming is a blessing. We have 30 years of amazing games available to us, all at once. Many games, despite old, are still fantastic.
Definitely recommend Dark Souls, I love it. Already played a ton of it in the past, considering getting it again on the Switch for myself. But I just had to order new analog sticks so that might have to wait.

Suou Patra, for her extremely based taste in games and music (she played the entire Armored Core series, and played metal songs on guitar on stream)
Nene Amano, the yabai and cute little angel from KawaiiPro
Kawasaki Sui, a small JP vtuber that has a lo-fi OL persona and likes racing games
Skye Shinryu, a new vtuber from EIEN project that also has a pretty based taste in retro games and a beautiful deep voice
And last but not least, Yuuka Misumi, or her new vtuber persona, Watagashi Unou. If you know who she is, you know why I like her.

Damn, I actually have a lot of oshis. And I'm subscribed to wayyyyy too many vtubers. There's not enough time in the world to actually watch all of them!
