Google’s excellent and neglected note-taking app is getting some much-needed formatting options and overall love. Here’s hoping it’s not the last time.
To approach this from a different angle, I would say this is actually an ironically encouraging sign that we are lurching in a good direction. There's always going to be some level of racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc., but those things are mainstream enough that you have to be really hard right to beat the drum for them. It's the kind of thing that might still play in certain areas, and with certain types or demographic, but the mainstream isn't really down with it. Open pro-trans movements and statements are pretty new compared to these other things, so it's just the latest in the succession of what-can-I-hate-up that authoritarian types latched onto. I have a feeling we're lurching -- and pretty quickly -- toward trans becoming more mainstream
So these emails that claim some hacker has access to my computer have moved up a notch in annoyance and they now include a blurry photo of some random fat guy on the toilet playing with himself and they think its me...
Can someone recommend a good resource for getting a neglected bike back into riding condition? What tools I need, what sort of parts I should check if they need replacement, so on?
@SirNuke See if there’s a local bike project near you. There’s one near me that accepts donated bikes and refurbishes and sells them for fairly cheap or uses them for parts. They have all kinds of tools and workspace that you can use to work on your own stuff.
Trying to convince my scientist wife to join Mastodon... her current objection is that she uses birdsite/Xbird to follow weather updates... anyone know if there's a weather tracking service on Masto? Would have to cover Denver metro.
@etherdiver This might be tangential, but there's a really great lemmy instance that's focused on science at mander.xyz. Kind of a Reddit alternative if you're not familiar with lemmy.

You can through kbin! There's a nice discussion of it here.
You can add their name to your kbin url like this: https://kbin.social/d/social.bbc. It should open the page as if it were a kbin magazine and have a subscribe button. After that, you should see it when you browse your subscribed threads (although it seems like it won't appear in your list of magazines).
I've seen a lot of lag and downtime from lemmy.world off and on. It seems like they get hit with DDoS or have maintenance issues (for lack of any real IT knowledge). I get the feeling they're getting squeezed and targeted because they're the flagship instance, but that's just speculation on my part.
That is exactly the thing I homed in on before anything else. You would think that just by statistical probability the guy must have one single good trait somewhere in there, but nope. Garbage from the haircut on down.
I don't know if this is quite the same thing, but @kersploosh was waging a war on bot accounts. Maybe they have some inside or can come up with something in conjunction with the admins.
Edit: that's @kersploosh@sh.itjust.works in case the one here is someone else.
@Arotrios had a really good post about some of the stuff you can do with kbin to follow other communities or even entire instances across the fediverse.
Same here. I've just noticed this over the last 24 to 48 hours. And it seems to be worse on computer. Right now I've been browsing with Firefox on Android and it seems to be doing fine.
When I was a kid in the '70s and '80s I can remember the front grill and windshield of our car being absolutely plastered with bugs. I mean like power wash to get them off plastered. Today it's surprising if I have more than a handful of smudges on my windshield.
Let's be honest. Most of us have waited our entire lives for this moment. A hairy-breasted man with not one, not two, not three, but four nipples? And leg pigtails? If this is wrong, I don't want to be right.
I do know what a tankie is, and why one would be against them, but I have never encountered so many people using the word. It's all over the place here. Why?
I was in the same position. I looked into it a little bit and my TL;DR version is that tankies are people who in general are apologists for the Russian and Chinese governments using fascistic and dictatorial measures. I'm guessing that more broadly speaking this could apply to supporting any government that uses violence against its own people, but it usually comes up in the context of those two countries.
I bring this up because it seems to once again be gaining traction in the zeitgeist: I cannot comprehend why UFO hunters put so much time and effort into trying to force governments to "reveal the truth about extraterrestrial contact", but I also cannot fathom how they think aliens even have a chance of successfully contacting...
David Tennant, of Dr Who fame, apparently said some pro trans things and now the TERFs are going after him on Twitter. His response is that he isn't worried because, and I quote, "I'll be fine, Terfs can't climb stairs"
I want that on a T-shirt. No, I NEED that on a T-shirt!
ETA: Apparently it was a parody account that said the stairs line. I still want it on a T-shirt.
Apparently one of the lemmy.ml admins was overzealous in banning all User-Agent strings that contained the word "bot". Bans were entered for all of the individual strings containing that word which were observed in their webserver logs, which impacted kbin's reported agent of "kbinBot"....
