If it’s the same issue I’ve been having, I opened a bug for it last week

https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/issues/153

OC While you're waiting on a kbin app, you should know the mobile site is entirely functional as a mobile app. Just make a shortcut for your home screen

Apps are always nice, but lots of mobile websites, including the kbin one, are entirely functional as an app. In your browser you can just make a shortcut to them, and they'll appear on your home screen and act as an app....

Screenshot of kbin on Firefox, with the Install button. Then the kbin icon on the home screen. Then kbin opened from the shortcut

Out of curiosity, which extension do you use to add these extra scripts?

I’ve fallen into a deep gaming rut lately. What helped “get you back into” gaming and rediscover the magic of video games?

I, like many gamers, grew up playing Pokémon Red and Nintendo 64 and was obsessed with Nintendo products. I graduated to a PS2 and PS3 and became super into Metal Gear Solid and Call of Duty and Fallout. Also spent a ton of time with the Guitar Hero series. I loved the escape gaming brought me and it genuinely helped me relax....

I like to tell people I have three pillars of media - books, tv/movies, games. I’m always consuming all three, but when I feel a bit burned out on one type, I just ignore it for a bit.

Very excited. Just checked my PS5 and it’s already preloaded, too. 90GB for those curious.

I do, but I only put one side in most of the time unless I know I won’t cross a street for a while or be otherwise near traffic. My Bluetooth earphones are connected so it’s easy to just pull one or both out and have them dangle.

From a purely anecdotal standpoint, I do have a thirty year old steel bike that I still use to cruise around, but I do have a much newer bike for exercise and long distance. I’ve had my steel bike tuned up a couple of times over the years and all the bike shop people say it’ll basically last forever since there’s no plastic on it, which is great.

But I do agree with another poster here in saying we have to get people to know that cycles even exist first. And beyond just regular people city planners and those with the means for change. I’d love to cycle and get groceries where I live, for example, but the infrastructure is poor and dangerous, so I just drive.

I finally broke down and bought the Dualsense Edge last night, and now my favorite might be skewed to this thing, ha.

TOTK for sure, but honorable mention: Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed. Yeah, it may just be DLC, but XC3 was easily my favorite game of 2022, and this extra content pulling together so much from literally a decade of story and games is awesome.

It’s like that feeling in Endgame where everyone shows up to help fight and you’re like, “Holy crap, they made it work!” They put all of this stuff together from all these different places and it works. That’s how I felt with XC3 and Future Redeemed.

Nah dawg, FF12 is excellent. Don’t feel any shame about that.

I would kind of laugh if after the sale goes through the Hornets start up a playoff run. Just for the fun of it all.

I went to Reddit today for the first time this week, and it just feels hostile. Even more hostile than before. There are all these people seemingly excited that the 3rd party apps are going away, and people mad that some subs are gone without taking a few moments to understand why.

Normally Reddit is just a pile of people arguing at each other, and now it feels like a pile of people angrily yelling at each other. Who wants to really hang out in that environment?

Mac gaming is right around the corner (www.theverge.com)

"Apple has created a new Game Porting Toolkit that’s similar to the work Valve has done with Proton and the Steam Deck. It’s powered by source code from CrossOver, a Wine-based solution for running Windows games on macOS. Apple’s tool will instantly translate Windows games to run on macOS, allowing developers to launch an...

When I read this headline I thought of when I bought my first mac in 2006 when they switched to Intel. They also thought that’d bring over games, and it didn’t. “Mac gaming is right around the corner” feels a little like “this is the year for Linux on the desktop.”

I’m not saying it’ll never happen. But it’s definitely a wait and see situation.

I agree up to a point. If a game is at 30 and feels good to play, then I’m OK. For example, Zelda feels great. Controlling Link is tight and snappy.

On the other hand, if the game has bad frame pacing (like Bloodborne), playing at 30 feels real bad.

I try not to get too crazy about frames, but sometimes some games just don’t feel good.

I will say, though, that while I really like channels like Digital Foundry, I sometimes wonder if them picking apart games to show the most minor frame dips is slowly teaching us to see these things, and as a result we kind of subconsciously will be like, “Well now I noticed this game had some moments where the frames dropped during an explosion. Obviously it’s a bad game.” I know that’s some hyperbole, but still.

I didn’t know Pence could read…

But seriously, the only reason he’s slightly turning on trump is because he’s also running. If he wasn’t running, I assume he’d be cheerleading for him (which is so weird since trump’s people wanted to kill him on Jan. 6).

Cyberpunk’s expansion totally overhauls the original game (www.videogameschronicle.com)

So I think this is a good one for the patient gamers… I actually already played this soon after it came out and still really enjoyed it, although the world felt like it didn’t have any real people in it the city is just fantastic and visually appealing. I imagine this update will transform the game entirely, I’m looking...

Oh snap. I’m sad I didn’t buy the game when it was going for $10 at Best Buy when the game was a mess. Now it’s gone back up in price. I guess I can wait until it gets back down to $10 again.

This is kinda where I’m at. I don’t mind that the software/app will exist. But I don’t care for Zuck and his empire so I won’t try it.

However, if it means some of my friends try it and I can follow them via @friend@threads.com or whatever, then great.

I had a great time with the demo, but I didn’t play the extra fight stuff after you finish it because I don’t want to spoil anything.

It really feels like this installment will be, just, good. Yoshi P and co have done a really good job with their character work (having played FF14 for a decade I had no doubts, really), and each cutscene is really well produced. The world so far feels better lived in, if that makes any sense. Something that pulled me out of, say FF15, was the fact that they had cell phones but somehow the main character and his fiancé talked to each other via magic dog carrying a notebook(‽). Just stuff like that that doesn’t make sense doesn’t seem to exist so far in this world. I mean, the demo is short, so maybe we’ll get some Cup Noodle sponsorships later on (I highly doubt it), but I feel like Yoshi P is taking this game seriously. And so far it shows in the demo. I’m not saying the game can’t have fun, but it’s a nice change of pace in my opinion.

I also really liked seeing people use magic to do mundane things in the world like filling up a glass of water or pruning trees. If your world has magic in it and is common enough, of course you’d use it to make life easier in these ways. Pretty neat.

I really enjoyed it. The gameplay is fun, but also the cutscenes are really well done. And not just the “ohhh it’s square and these are pretty.” The characters and the acting are really good, and it’s very cinematic.

Kinda the same for me. I made one Lemmy and one Kbin this week to try them out.

Kbin seems to have less…uh…baggage than Lemmy so at the moment I’m liking it better.

garretble,
garretble avatar

Maybe it’s on a per-server basis, but when I was playing around with Lemmy I found some options to choose between a light and dark theme. I think it’s also set to your system’s settings by default. So if your phone is always in dark mode you’ll see that, and then your desktop may load the light version.
