Filling minor gaps in branding

@look997 If I'm not mistaken, it's not meant to resemble the letter V, but rather a Manila folder (note the little tab on the left).

/kbin - a few quick announcements

Good morning! :) Today I want to focus mainly on reviewing the pull requests you've submitted. There are many great things there that will help improve the kbin experience. That's amazing, thank you! I'm also in the final stages of sorting out the infrastructure-related formalities. Soon, the situation with the website's...

This is the most correct answer, because it results in the phone being in the correct orientation in your hand when you take it out. fite me.

This feels like a forced reddit detox.

I, much like basically everyone here, have been avoiding Reddit when possible, and the content here just doesn't hit the same. My fried dopamine receptors were certainly screaming for stimulation early on but now I feel an urge to touch grass and breathe fresh air. What is this? Am I dying? I still hate the angry lightbulb in...

@cody has been doing some work revamping parts of the UI, including the voting buttons. See his post here and let him know what you think.

Not quite that easy, unfortunately, as we don’t have an API yet, but it is being worked on.

Decided I'm going to go ahead with my Kbin mobile app.

Yeah I know i have a lot on the go, but I use Apollo daily, and want a solid Apollo like experience for Kbin.

I'm willing to hand over the project to Kbin if they want, and would love to work closely with the developer on this if possible.

Will be starting this next week, after my camping trip! It will be open source from the start, and contributors will be gladly welcomed! #kbin

@acb @dansup probably React Native, based on Dan’s toots

I’m somewhat decent with both of those but I think I should try to install it myself first ;)

garrettw87,

Not for me. I know PHP and not Rust, so if I want to go somewhere that I have a chance of contributing to, that narrows it down.

kbin sounds like a hex editor for KDE

That's what I needed to hear today. genius

Federation was turned back on well before this was posted. Like probably a day or two or three ago.

If you're curious...
"Mi" - pronoun meaning I/me
"lernis" - learned (The root is "lern-". The following rules apply to all verbs: "-i" is the infinitive form, "-is" is past tense, "-as" is present tense, "-os" is future tense, "-us" is conditional tense (kind of like could/would), and "-u" is imperative/command form.)
"Esperanton" - obviously Esperanto, but the "-n" suffix denotes a direct object.
"ĉar" - because
"volas" - (verb, present tense) want
"havi" - (verb, infinitive) to have
"amikojn" - (noun, direct object, plural) - root is "amik-", the "-o" suffix denotes a noun, "-j" makes it plural, and then the "-n" for direct object again
"en" - in
"ĉiaj" - all
"la" - the (this is the only article in the language; incidentally, there is no indefinite article)
"landoj"- countries ("-o" is noun, "-j" is plural)
"de" - of (there are actually multiple words that can mean "of" but that's another topic entirely)
"mondo" - world

The letter "ĉ" is pronounced like "ch"; Esperanto doesn't do two-letter phonemes because one of its foundational principles is one letter = one sound.

I wish they would all hurry it up and make something law.

Some thoughts on voting UI

garrettw87,
garrettw87 avatar

@cody I agree with unifying a post or comment's "score" into a single number, however I think it would be cool if the raw numbers were still accessible -- for example, as a title/tooltip when you hover over the vote buttons, maybe. Or you could put both numbers in a tooltip on the unified number.

Has anyone ever checked out Kialo? It's a structured debate site and it can be good for topics like this.

The cliffhanger... felt appropriate in a way, but I honestly found myself waiting for it to happen for a while. The movie made it feel like it was coming way before it actually did, so after every scene toward the end I found myself wondering, "ok is it over now? no? are they actually going to finish the story and this movie is going to be longer than usual? if so I'd be ok with that but I really hope they don't end it here..." A little on the annoying side. It felt like they wouldn't have had much farther to go to finish telling the story, but what do I know.

garrettw87,
garrettw87 avatar

Loved the movie. The animation style was amazing. Loved the chemistry between Miles and Gwen, and .... sniff .... came out of the movie wishing I had a Gwen of my own. I know she's a teenager, but why do I feel like they wrote her as just enough of an adult to be attractive? I hesitate to admit it, but I've always been a sucker for the whole "puppy love" dynamic. I just think it's the most amazing feeling and I don't get enough of it IRL so I have to experience it vicariously through fictional characters. Definitely a weakness of mine.

@ernest Hi there, I just want to express my interest in helping out, as I am fortunately a PHP developer.

Areas where I can help the most:

  • Triaging issues and generally keeping the issues list tidy
  • Contributing to developer quality-of-life things, such as setup documentation and improving tooling configurations
  • Helping set up a CONTRIBUTING.md (contributing guidelines)
  • Making UI/UX suggestions (as if we don't have enough of those already)
  • Once I get more familiar with the codebase:
    • Reviewing PRs
    • Working on code structure / SOLIDness / readability / etc.

Feel free to review my GitHub account if you like. I have a lot of unfinished projects there ;)

@ernest Looks like my first task is getting my own environment up and running, which will hopefully yield something worth contributing.

Can someone explain how this moderation action works? A lemmy.ml user removed a post from a partizle.com user from a kbin.social magazine.

relevant magazine is /m/RedditMigration here on kbin.social. You can see it's the one and only report in the modlog yet the user who removed the comment is not listed in the moderators list, is not even a kbin.social user, and did not remove a lemmy.ml comment. Yet, it was removed for me as a kbin.social user....

I assume you meant to type "wouldn't" at the beginning

Try asking in /m/kbinMeta - it’s a fair question. Maybe the dev just hasn’t implemented it yet

All in due time ;)

So glad to know federation is turned on and working over here now!

garrettw87,

I think the distinction was not thought through before /m/kbinMeta was created, and it kinda represents both the site and the software.
