Why YSK: I've been seeing an increasing number of phone photos shared online in 9:16, 9:21 or similarly tall aspect ratios, often with parts of the subject cut off. I've asked a few people why they cropped their images that way, and none of them knew they were cropped.
Nothing more annoying than showing an album to friends over Chromecast on your TV and the photos don't fill the screen.
But you can still just crop it after taking the picture? 4:3 would just give you more freedom of where the cut is made for photos that might not be lined up perfectly when taken in 16:9.

I'm not saying you're incorrect, but this is inconsistent with my experience. I have had about 6 or 7 UTIs, and across multiple urgent care facilities, the experience has mostly just entailed me getting urinalysis, something a MinuteClinic is capable of, and being prescribed antibiotics. Once they sent me to an ER instead and that time I was giving imaging, but it seems like plenty of places are willing to just make the call to prescribe antibiotics and recommend following up with a primary care provider afterwards. This has also always been covered by insurance. I'm not saying they've ever solved the root problem, but they have no issue treating the symptom. I'm not sure what I'm missing or if my city's healthcare just sucks or what.
And yes, I know that statistically something is wrong with me. I've talked with my new primary care provider about it and they're basically just telling me to monitor it and give them a call if it happens again.
With Android, I have the option of avoiding the Google Play Store if they start to do weird things with it.
Just gonna mention that the EU literally just decided that Apple needs to open up their ecosystem like a few months ago and this will no longer be a problem, same as Android.
Back on topic, I have a Galaxy S22 Ultra, because Samsung is generally the farthest ahead on new features for Androids and I gave up on iPhones in high-school when they told me I needed to buy a new phone to install a game. Like Google Pixels are theoretically supposed to be the flagship of Android, but they're always way behind on stuff I already have on Samsung devices. The most recent example is that they're now cloning Samsung DeX.

Tbh I usually just use it to play games on a bigger screen with a Bluetooth controller when I'm bored, Nintendo Switch style. There are plenty of console-style mobile games + streaming services that can make it a pretty good time killer if I'm the only one in a waiting room or something.
Despite the "no microtransactions" label, the communication all-around for the cosmetics kinda sucks and I want to clarify some stuff.
While there is an absolute ton of stuff to unlock in-game, a bunch of armors and handful of weapon skins are labeled stuff like "VIPs only" and "Veterans only."
In reality, most of that stuff is available via the "Supporter Pack" for $20. The only exceptions here are some scoreboard icons and anything labeled "Veterans only" or "Content Creator only."
Despite plenty of paid/event/status cosmetics being shown in the menus, that's not actually everything. For example, there are currently Twitch drops available to get purple gun skins for a bunch of weapons.
But unlike games like CoD, you can ignore the vast majority of this shit and just play. There's no in-game store or anything, you load the game up and they just go "here's all the available quickplay modes and the community servers button, have fun."
There are already community servers, but at present you don't earn XP on them. I believe they've said that eventually they will change this, but I don't know the timeline. As long as they get it done before adding Faceit, I think it'd be a perfectly fine compromise.

I dunno, I don't really see it as "respecting my time." Historically, games like this have been hit or miss for me, so I never wanted to blow over $20 on it, and I certainly don't feel like $35. I would much rather just play something else I already own or can get for cheaper until I can buy the game on a whim instead of having to commit and play "check every nook and cranny for deal-breakers during the refund window."
I would also far prefer something like what BattleBit Remastered is doing. Game came out for $15, it's one of the best shooters I've played in years, so I bought the $20 supporter pack for some in-game cosmetics. Low entry price and rewards for further support. I fundamentally disagree with raising prices on existing products and hate this idea of price FOMO that has extended past early access.
It also means that after a while people figure out the pattern of "new show, cancelled, new show, cancelled, repeat" and stop caring about originals. Like Netflix.

Lemmy.ml is a stain on the fediverse. As much as Dessalines and Nutomic preach that "if you don't like our moderation policy you can start your own instance," lemmy.ml's dominant position means it's hard to realistically defederate and ignore, so by default their (unclear and tankie belief-based) moderation policy is effectively getting enforced no matter what.
I tried using the "block instance" feature kbin supposedly has, but it didn't work. On the upside, lemmy.world, kbin.social, and beehaw.org seem to be doing quite well.

The machine already made its choice and filled the boxes, so taking both boxes is always the correct answer. Either I get $1,000,000 if the machine thought I would take both, or I get $1,001,000,000 if it didn't. This is a false dilemma, there is never a reason to take just one box.

I have noticed this as well. I've made a few excursions back to reddit since it keeps loading old comments I haven't yet mass-deleted to my profile page, and on the two trips where I didn't immediately close the browser afterwards, both times I clicked on a thread and immediately saw some inflammatory bait, got a little annoyed, and then remembered "wait, I don't browse this shithole anymore" and came on back.
I'm not perfect, not even close, but I'm definitely trying to check how I say things while I'm here because I want it to stay this was for as long as possible.
