Reality check, cuz I think you need to hear it: you wrote, recorded, and edited the entire ad. The latter is something that can be learned with relative ease, the first two not so much. Funny is fuckin hard to write and just as difficult to perform, and you are able to do both. If you enjoy making them, I hope you continue, even if they are things you create and save just for yourself.

I know just a tiny bit about the audio hardware side of things, having roomed with musicians and audio engineers back in the day. It blew my mind that there's a wide range of mics for different purposes (like long range or with a wide capture radius, just to cite crude examples). I thought they were all the same lol

Related JAQing off opinion piece in The Guardian posted today: "Where are all the films about ‘whiteness’?" .

For those unfamiliar with the acronym, JAQ = "Just asking questions," a bad faith tactic pushing an absurd narrative (e.g. "movies for white people are disappearing") by pretending to ask innocent questions.

Direct quote, emphasis mine:

That’s why the final step towards true racial equality on screen is for whiteness to be cinematically named, described and dethroned from its “just human” position of cultural power. It’s time for white people to develop a cinema culture all of their own.

It's riddled with white power talking points like this. This shit is really fucked up. It is irresponsible for a well-known major news source to publish shit like this, even with the "opinion" label attached. It's basically right wing extremist (aka Nazi) recruitment propaganda.

I've had Cocoon (1985) on my mind lately, so I'm gonna run it by the wife for weekend viewing. I haven't seen it since it came out. We saw one old people movie recently (*batteries not included (1987)) and she dug it, so maybe it's time for some Wilford Brimley lol

I was curious, so I looked it up. AV1 is more efficient than HEVC by like 28%! On the downside, encoding is horrifically slooow. It'll be interesting to see how much hardware support AV1 gets in the coming years, because encoding time will have a dramatic effect on its adoption rate.

Interesting to note: AV1 can be played in Kodi, Plex, Emby, Jellyfin, VLC, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera. So on the software side, it's pretty widely supported.

Y'know, there's a similar one used in the gemstone industry: "eye clean," which only applies if the stone has no inclusions (artifacts) that can be seen with the naked eye. As you can imagine, it's usually a pretty desirable trait, especially in diamonds. It doesn't really matter if there's random garbage floating around in it, it just has to be undetectable to our human eyes.
