Somethings are going not too great. I’ve been whining about it over on my Mastodon account, don’t need to bring the whine here. But suffice to say that things are tough, tense and I’m exhausted. I love Lemmy and love my time here but it does add a lot of extra stuff that I am having a hard time focusing on at the moment....
🖖 I know how you feel, brah! Sometimes you gotta take a step back and get some breathing room. If this place goes downhill in your absence and we end up moving to c/portnacelle or something, I'm sure someone will message you.
It's -5°F over here in Chicago, supposed to hit a high of 2°F later today. Wife and I are working from home, so we're both ok. We care for a feral cat that spends the winter months in a wooden cat house with a bed and plug-in heating pad that my wife installed on the back deck a few years ago. I'm always worried about that cat, she's getting older and isn't as spry as she used to be.
In about six, seven months it's gonna be 100° warmer, which is wild to me.
I realize you're probably half-joking, but here's a bit of unsolicited advice, hope you don't mind.
The original Star Trek (1966) tv show, aka The Original Series (TOS) is beloved but has problematic social issues that haven't aged well and can be pretty cringe when viewed with modern eyes. I probably wouldn't start with TOS if you're new to Trek.
The Next Generation (TNG) from '87-'94 is a little better about that and is regarded by most as the crown jewel of the franchise. So if you do start watching, I recommend TNG! Great show, especially from season 3 onward, if you subscribe to the belief that humanity is capable of bettering itself and working together to help others. I'm just spitballing, I think you'll like TNG. Just my two cents.
Please tell me this is something you can customize. I didn't realize until now that I need a toilet that plays John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare" when I take a dump.

From what I've seen, I sincerely think you'll like it at Beehaw. They're an ok bunch of progressive folks who refuse to let it become a nazi bar. I can get behind that. Have fun!
I was one of the A.I.-generated art posters. I'm slightly bummed, but I get it. There are moral issues to consider, and it does require relatively little effort on the creative side. I mean, I myself do prefer seeing custom stuff that was created manually by community members.
So glad to see the transparency with rule changes/additions. You guys are doing all right. Thanks for making this a fun, cozy, safe place to hang out in.
This is the direct instance link: https://lemmy.world/c/tenforward. You probably have to search for "tenforward" through your own instance and subscribe from there. It's a fun place to hang out, all the regulars post there now.
Huh, so this is interesting. The Risa mod nuked my post, so I wasn't expecting any comment notifications. The post I made is still visible to me over here at Kbin, so I'm guessing it's still visible in some instances (like Beehaw) that may not be completely synced with the startrek.website instance? At any rate, hope to see you in Ten Forward!
Oh jeez, I'm sorry. I'm totally facepalming because now I remember reading about Beehaw defederating with some well-known instances, lemmy.world and lemmygrad.ml among them. I hope one day Beehaw will be able to handle the influx of users from some of these larger instances. Until then, you can still access Ten Forward at the direct link, I guess. Sorry again.
