I tried Waydroid on Arch and its amazing. It runs Android apps flawlessly. And with a touchscreen device, I feel like I have an Android tablet running inside my Linux machine....
if you want netflix witjh DRM stuff like offline downloads waydroid can do it I think via the android app..
You need to use a waydroid-utils script to install "widevine" for drm.
This is a solution i've tested for someone else not me;
I think it works, but it's not been rigorouly road tested.
Posssibly other DRM services will work if you can tolerate that type of thing.
My guess is that the main use for it is android app development and testing.
waydroid is pretty easy to get working - and I think will be usable by the actual end user once set up.
I did look at stremio but I couldn't see a way to do the offline downloads thing on netflix.
That is a desirable feature for the person who travels a lot and they just want to have some videos for when they're off-line or on limited bandwidth like on the train or bus.
This servarr thing looks way more complex - though I admit I might be a bit too dim for it as I couldn't figure out what it actually does.
Thanks for the suggestions though - waydroid looks easiest to meet all the needs. I'm sure someone smarter than me will have fun with that weird servarr suggetion - it does seem to have a whole lot of features.
in England and Wales Law trespass is a civil issue, not a crime/police matter. The term breaking and entering is not really used formally in E+W law.
"Burglary" is unlawfully entering a building with intent to steal, commit GBH, or do criminal damage (something like that)
So to make it burglary probably hinges on the tresspasser having deliberately damaged some property.
Breaking a window might be enough, but defendant might argue that a door or window was already open or broken.

is the usb A high power still limited to 5V?
This means it'd need high current ratings (and heat dissipation) to deliver higher power at that voltage.
compare to say usb-C that can negotiate up to something like 20V, if all links allow it.
this means your usb-c can offer higher power with lower current rated components..
For basic solidstate power supply doubling the V ratings from say 6V to 12V will likely be cheaper than doubling Amp ratings from say 3A to 6A.
but for sure in a laptop managing the heat will be a consideration.
Maybe theres a version of USBA that can use the data lines to negotiate power - in which case this would be non-standard.
They should just state peak and continuous V, A and W for each port, and also for the set of ports as a whole. maybe in different input/battery scenarios. I assume a third party, or home gamer could create their own plug in module to do whatver, but it'd be helpful for them to know the electrical ratings.
Donโt get me wrong, I will probably cave at the last minute and vote SNP again for a number of reasons. Mostly, being supportive of a number of their progressive policies that I have benefited from over the years, and also because my constituency is a two horse race between them and the Tories who I will never vote for. Though...
Hello, I wanna know which distro could be could for productivity (not gaming). Maybe a debian based one, I donโt know and I donโt care about the desktop env. Thx!
+1 for debian.
No need to mess around with debian derivatives for whatever pointless extra widgets they have.
It's good enough for most stuff and has "allow nonfree drivers" choice which helps with annoying hardware problems of the past.
If you don't care about desktop env, you probably don't care about wayland vs xorg either.
So I'd try XFCE, simple, basic, lightweight, fast, probably not the most modern or flashy,
but you're getting to work faster.
This may sound really weird and dumb (and long, on top of that) to you micro-pc gurus but this thought has been going in my head lately so I'd like to ask to someone who actually knows. Please excuse me in advance....
the codes sent by IR remotes are usually fairly well published - so that universal remotes can be used. Advanced programmable remotes can also setup "macro" sequences of codes mapped to a single button, so the pie can notionally do the same thing with an IR Tx module. And each button can be recorded manually by an IR reciever
So the pie could in theory control the TV via infra red , for example sending the IR code sequence to switch the tv to a video source connected to its output..
But - I don't really see what that all that gains you in terms of UI .
I'd want a separate wireless kb/mouse for the pie anyway.
I might want to run say yt-dlp for example, maybe FreeTube might be an option on rpi for some distros - but again i'd want a keyboard to input search strings.
I'd say just plug the pie in to an input and use the tv remote to choose it as source when you want that, then pick up the wireless mouse. this probably same as the chromecast / extra remote option though.
I imagine the pie has a higher power draw, but gives you more freedom.
Yeah i have a relative who wanted to switch to linux, due to windows being dog-shite, but she want's to have netflix with offline download feature.
Anyway it's a right pain in the arse.
I ended up going with the Waydroid emulator and using netflix android app.
It needs wayland so sadly I had to betray XFCE.
You can get it to work on the plain lineageOS waydroid image ( without gapps) - I think either via aurora app store or just sideload the apk into waydroid directly.
There's a waydroid utilities/helper script that installs widevine into the vitrual machine.
I got it working on stock debian+KDE(5), I'm not so sure about other distros but I assume GNOME would work fine also.
I looks like the downloading for offline view works, i'm not 100% sure whatll happen with disk space. And I didn't check the resolution available.
She's not actually switched over from windows yet, but we did a quick proof of concept.
I'm not sure if the waydroid route is easier or not but it's an option, and if you're wayland already that's one less hurdle.
UI through the emulator is s bit annoying, but manageable and you might be stuck with the android bar at the bottom so no true fullscreen.
