It's a damning indictment of the selfishness of Western society that despite living in a pandemic that has killed tens of millions of people, we haven't even learned to normalize wearing a mask or staying home when we are sick, regardless of what bug you might have.
Note: Wearing a mask or staying home when you are sick means we need government leadership and structural supports to encourage people to do that. That means providing N95 masks for free and increasing paid sick days.

They spent the last 30 years denying that there was such a thing as long lasting post viral symptoms going as far to smear ME/CFS activists who argued against what was killing and disabling them, as dangerous to scientists, science itself.
It cheered on austerity that led to an excess of 300,000 deaths.
Politricks refuse to enforce even the most basic #containment and #disease prevention protocols to the point that I'm afraid that in two years it'll be made mandatory to shake unwashed hands with brown shit smears still on and lick them afterwards...
Because what's being done goes against anything I've learned in school and as a firefighter and I refuse to believe that everyone who taught me stuff pre-rona re: sicknesses and biohazards was absolutely wrong.

@luckytran It's not just selfishness, it's also the system and ideology around work and productivity that makes it harder for people to do the right thing. People literally think they're being valiant going into work sick, doing so becomes part of their identity as a virtuous worker deserving of reward.
