First time since the start of the pandemic where I momentarily stopped following my own protocols & first time I got My symptoms seem to be gone now thankfully, but even after getting the "mild" kind, I don't understand how people can be so nonchalant about this disease.

And this is literally 2 weeks after I got the 4th booster that's available in the US. I can imagine how it damages the organs, so many different things that people can experience.

@timnitGebru So glad that you feel better, but please keep resting for at least two weeks to avoid any long covid symptoms.

“We make mistakes and don’t always use the right words,” adds Caroline, 56.

“But what we hope we can do to help the trans community is humanise the debate. This is just an ordinary family; a coherent, loving family that’s been ripped apart,” Peter continues"

"Not because Alice was transgender,” his wife says, “but because of the reaction to her being trans”

The Government’s independent advisor to its Rape Review, Emily Hunt, has quit claiming there is a “lack of will” in the police and civil service to change.

She said myths about rape are perpetuated at high levels of the civil service and police. She is returning to the US as she says she does not feel safe in Britain.

Shares in some of the UK’s biggest housebuilders rose sharply last month, on the news that the government proposed to relax rules that would have hindered them from polluting waterways.

Well, colour me surprised. Some of the biggest donors to Tory party coffers are construction company bosses, and an election is looming.
Meanwhile, their new developments can continue to overload local sewage systems and pollute wetlands with impunity.

The financial costs of increasingly exact a cost on ...

It is a sobering comparison that rather than having three years of intellectual development & mental growth, students seem more likely to sink into ... no-one would expect university not to be challenging, but this should be empowering not debilitating....

There is something very wrong with how we treat university & we urgently need to fix it!

https://www.theguardian.com/education/2023/sep/29/university-students-more-at-risk-of-depression-than-non-students-study

junesim63,
@junesim63@mstdn.social avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 There is pressure now on huge numbers of students to aim for university, when many are not actually suited to an academic environment and would do better combining learning with work. We are forcing these young people into a narrow idea of what 'success' is, with the resulting fallout.

junesim63,
@junesim63@mstdn.social avatar

@lauravivanco @ChrisMayLA6 The combination of work/learning I meant is a structured programme, much like the German lehre system, which combines academic and on the job training to attain professional qualifications, for example, in engineering, while earning a living wage. Perhaps I should have made it clearer.
But I take your point that the majority of today's students are forced to work to keep their heads above water, which also plays havoc with mental health. It's a crap system all round.

I agree with Peter Hambly, executive director of the Badger Trust, who said they're using badgers as a scapegoat for not taking “more decisive” cattle-based action on bTB.

Re-upping this again: I wish more lefties could internalize the idea that hypocrisy is not a meaningful accusation to the right. Of course they're being hypocrites. That you are bound, by rules, standards, logic, human decency, some fundamental moral consistency, anything at all, and they are not? That is their conception of what power is, and why they seek it. So they can exercise power, without constraint, and you cannot.

That's the whole point.

Hypocrisy is the virtue-signaling of fascism.
