Be careful walking around #NoeValley today. Lots of careless and weird drivers out there right now.

Just got back from my walk, after being yelled at by two drivers while crossing at the intersection of a slow-street...two different intersections.

One was angry at me for muttering a bad word to myself, and he rolled down his window to scold me for not trusting him to stop and calling him a bad word.

Now I'm feeling cranky, and need to make pretty art to re-center myself.

In the past weeks, I've passed by this beautiful flowering plant on my daily walks (recovering from cancer surgery). My recovery is going well, and getting stronger every day!

But before I went into surgery, I was working on these creative coding/generative art pieces built from the text "F*ck Cancer".

It amazes me how the colors of these go together so accidentally and yet beautifully.

Some of the folks who signed up for my #StickersAndStamps project finally got an email from me, thanking them for letting me know when their letters arrived.

Most of them arrived on, or near, the the day I had my surgery.

My recovery is still going well, and I finally had the mental and physical energy for the correspondence.

I'll be returning to working on the data visualization and art of the project soon!

What is the more general discussion, like outside of Mastodon, about Microsoft Recall travesty?

I recognize that who and what I read is heavily influenced by data-safety-ethics-rights and so on.

Are average computer users aware of the dangers?

As a recovering Cancer patient, having Microsoft track my interactions with my doctors....ummm..NO!!!!!!

It's going to be hard enough to get my insurance to actually cover my care without that.

I'm just so happy to be alive, and that I might actually be Cancer free. Yeah, yeah, more tests before it's sure....but I might actually be cancer free now!

So, if I'm even more socially awkward than usual, please forgive me...and celebrate with me!

Even if it turns out I might actually need Chemo....I'm gonna focus on the recovery I'm in now.

Part of getting the new community instance (datavis.social) up and running was deciding on my profile header. I went with an IterativeArt piece I created with code and the text "F*ck Cancer".

I started working on this piece in the days after my diagnosis but before going in for surgery. Even with my frustrations and scary emotions about Cancer, that I was feeling at the time, I still wanted to make the piece beautiful. As usual :)

I sure wish I could see this amazing aurora, but the fog is rolling in over Twin Peaks, and it's still unlikely that it will be active by the time it's dark here? It's not likely.

Hey vis.social!

Starting tomorrow, April 25th, @darth_mall will be helping out our moderation team as Admin.

I go in for surgery tomorrow, and expect to be in the hospital recovering for an additional 3-5 days.

If all goes as expected, I will be fully recovered in a month. But I'll be back online before then. :)

Editing to add: yep, it's Cancer. But hopefully, this surgery will take care of it.

It's never been acceptable.

Brilliant women who have done brilliant work have been forced into "housewife" roles for ages.

Julia Child was just one of the most famous ones, in recent history.

Thankfully, for all of us, she found a path that society accepted and embraced.

When I went for my CT scan last week, I couldn't help being reminded of the first episode of Zoey's Extraordinary Play List.

I'd tried re-watching it about a year ago, but her father's condition reminded me too much of how advanced my mom's Parkinson's was before she passed two years ago. It was too soon, for me.

But trying again tonight. And wow! I forgot how amazing this show was.

Just so very very good!
