Story Concept: A secret society of paleontologists and archeologists who make a pact that when each of them dies the others will go to wild lengths to stage burial circumstances most likely to be preserved, even fossilized to confound the intelligent life of the far future. This includes weird burial objects, suggestive poses, etc.

They make the pact when young & silly, but as they grow old and carry it out it becomes a much more serious & momentous thing. About keeping promises & friendship.

@futurebird I like it already. Make it a project they work on together, meeting up at a cabin that someone's grandparents own, kinda run down but still pretty, and they meet there every year, but as they get older and have relationships and Stuff, it ... gets more complex.

Victoria and Vladyslav got married in May of 2023. They planned a wedding celebration on their first anniversary. But Vladyslav died defending Ukraine in November.

"I didn't know that I will be bringing a wedding bouquet to you this year, not you to me...I didn't know there would be no more photos together," Victoria wrote. She had a photosession on their first anniversary.

Anybody know why it sounds like WW II up here? Who's setting off fireworks IN SUMMER IN THE BAY AREA when we still haven't finished cutting firebreaks around our homes? Are they fucking crazy, or do they just need a sound beating to calm them down and put them quietly to sleep?

I follow food YouTubers from certain countries not err, known for their culinary prowess, and it’s just an anthropological thing at this point. ‘Best recipe ever!! Everyone will love it!!’ And it’s something they would get me uninvited from dinner parties in my part of the world, like if I showed up with unseasoned potatoes.

It really reminds me that people are so different

@skinnylatte Have you ever tried "baeckhoffe?" Also called "laundry day stew," it's basically a bunch of meat-like stuff cooked with potatoes and JUNIPER BERRIES. For those hitherto unacquainted with Juniper berries, may I invite you all to imagine what Satan's bunghole (which might be another name for this herb, or I could be getting it mixed up with asafoetida, which shares the monicker) smells like. You're welcome. It tastes about as thrilling as it smells.

We can give the extra plants that love to volunteer in the and exchange a few , , plants, or garden tools that people want to share.

@compost It's amazing how many of our lovely LGBTQ fam are gardeners AND readers. I guess when you have to hide who you really are from most people, it makes sense to want to do things on your own. After 6 years of wondering ‘why am I much more depressed in SF than in Singapore / Malaysia / Indonesia’, I’ve done everything, seen everyone, done all the therapies, but I’ve just realized that the difference is ‘I don’t eat noodles for breakfast every morning’ in only one of those places.

So, I rectified that today and it’s looking like my theory has legs. And noodles. And happiness.

@skinnylatte My grandma used to say "two grains of this, a pinch of that, a bowl of rice." You have to experiment A LOT to make things come out like she did. And sometimes, the spices are old, or picked past peak. My ex-MIL used to go buy all the chai spices fresh in the village and have them sent to us for roasting/grinding.

It’s not lost on me that many electeds in San Francisco are simply latching on to the first available Chinese American person, usually conservative, and then saying all Chinese Americans want tough on crime pro-police politicians like them (and ignoring other types of people who do not want those things)

I was yelling about the NAR Christians for the last decade in Singapore, where local acolytes also have implemented versions of this theology (there’s a cinema with evangelical Christian certified content for example)

You can’t divorce that movement from the parent theology, which is this stuff. Except in Asia it becomes 80% about prosperity, 5% about God, 15% about MLM
