Indoors - one of my tiger #orchids bloomed last night.
Outdoors - 1st #IrisNigricans, #NationalFlower of #Jordan bloomed & more to open this week. One of my Syrian friends gave me a pot of rhizomes 3yrs ago.
More grape soda #irises bloomed too.
Side gardens. Our #strawberries patch is bursting with lots of flowers & baby #fruits. I'm patiently waiting for them to mature & ripen up.
We grow strawberries in front & back gardens too. It's one of our fave fruits to eat, so we grow lots of them. We grow new #strawberry#plants to give away & some to sell, from propagating runners.
Hi folks: having had a rejection of the initial plans for a community garden here in #Jersey, we have the warm go ahead to apply for a change of use for a different - and probably more appropriate field for the project. To help do this I need photos of community gardens to go into the application.
If anyone has any that they a) own and b) would be happy for me to use I'd be very grateful. Please DM me for an email address. Thank you!
1/ For the #gardeners here: I have been discussing with a small group of environmentalists, a Horticultural Therapist and my local Connetable (elected, Parish level, with real power) the possibility of creating a wetland educational project and an adjoining community garden on land near my house.
That conversation has been going on for 2 or 3 years now - and I've got tired of the daft local issues preventing progress.
The biggest of these is the question of land ownership.
🧵 1/2 That's never happened to me before: My podcast script has taken on a life of its own. I had to read tonnes, dived into the sea instead of roaming through savannahs as I had intended. I tell you about bats that love cacti and plants that construct bat motels. I sing like Kermit and travel back in time to the first flowering plant thanks to a book. We meet the oldest clone organism on earth and cheerleaders that mop the seabed.
For a bit more than a year, that I'm in the Fediverse, I had the chance to read and learn from #gardeners and #wildlife enthusiasts around the globe.
You are a generous bunch of people, thanks for sharing!
The Australian & southern hemisphere #gardeners are really mocking us up in the frozen north with their early summer produce pictures....but we'll get them back in due time...tick-tock
I have a quick question for any #Gardeners in upstate #NewYork. Are there any examples of Fuyu persimmons growing in the area of #Albany New York? Or in the #HudsonRiver Valley?
I know the episode about #animal#gardeners was scheduled for the end of Nov. This year is a disaster. I'm working on it, but with the loss of Bilbo, I need some time for me. Thank you for your patience! Meanwhile, you can listen to older episodes https://naturematchcuts.net#naturelovers I'll be back!
After doing our potting morning, we went to the laneway behind our place to try to tackle the awful morning glory weed. It is getting into our place from our neighbour's place. You can see the morning glory on top of the fence with pretty flowers. #Melbourne people - do NOT grow this in your place and remove it as soon as you find it. It is very invasive.
This photo shows us part-way through cleaning up the masses of morning glory in the laneway. The morning glory was also growing over rubbish on the ground. There was so much morning glory that it was creating dirt beneath and there were some very healthy worms.
The skip was already half-full when we started. We had to stop shortly after this photo was taken because we had already filled the skip with rubbish and morning glory. We will have to finish the job next weekend. #gardeningAU
@perkinsy yes - I imagine Madagascar is similarly clear. My slight gripe with the concept is that it is extremely hard to@define in much of the world - but is regularly used to berate #gardeners though there is a massive lack of clarity over the list. I’m trying to set up a community garden and I have some fairly zealous souls who want to get involved insisting we should only plant native plants.
I’ve asked for the list…
This greenhouse with its sheltered environment makes it possible to start these geraniums early so that their beauty can be enjoyed for a longer season.
Scott Mann started The #Permaculture Podcast in October 2010, the same week he completed a Permaculture Design Course with Susquehanna Permaculture. Originally interested in interviewing #gardeners, #homesteaders, and land-managers as a way to extend his permaculture education, this gradually shifted towards the emerging edges of permaculture beyond the landscape. https://www.thepermaculturepodcast.com/
#gardeners of mastodon, any tips/ideas on how to revive a Meyer lemon tree that's lost all it's leaves? I'm pretty sure it just got over-watered / a little too cold in the week after we had a kid. I moved it inside to the warmest room in the house when I got a chance, and fertilized it but it's since lost all it's leaves.
There's one last flower on it, so it can't be that dead, right?
