I'm insincere for asking why people who believe the election was stolen don't do more, yet you go around making images to piss people off. at least you're transparent about this hypocrisy.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@nam

why do you care that Georgia Dream was elected? because democracy matters. self government matters. that our government lies about who is or isn't democratic and when that's important, doesn't mean it's not important.

wjmaggos,

@nam

what kind of organized action are Fauci critics supposed to take when you're not a fan of democracy or protests?

Being against government regulation should be seen like supporting defunding the cops. Regulations control corporations in the same way that most laws are meant to control the behavior of people. Everybody should do right always, but we don't. Also most people don't directly experience too many abuses by corporations or other people, nor do we see abuses by regulatory agencies or cops. It all happens but we shouldn't vote based on anecdote, PR or lobbying. Journalism and data.

loves to talk to horribly misinformed folks and grifters on . I wonder if I couldn't come up with some dumb conspiracy, get on the show and say shit like Alex Jones is a pedo. Use that to explore how bad info can lead good people to do horrible shit. Get shot while trying to "save democracy" cause somebody else said the election was stolen. That with free speech and unlimited internet media comes some responsibility to the public interest not to bullshit people.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks looks a lot like . It's weird watching the former as Peter the Terrible and knowing Matt spent a lot of time in Russia when he was younger and that lots of people think he's some kind of Putin puppet.

It's just short clips so not exactly what I was also hoping for. But it touched on key considerations imo. Worth one's time.

right now I love . but something like a Personal Data Server that I can keep at home or pay somebody to manage, move whenever I want and connect to any new service that somebody develops, seems like the inevitable way forward. a blob with all my stuff as safe as I am willing pay for, where these companies are competing to be the most trustworthy and reliable. instead of having it spread out everywhere or with Google or Apple. and them pushing me to use their services.

I don't like the idea of the Stars and Stripes touching the ground. Or not being the highest flag flown. Or being incorporated in the fabric of clothing to a lesser degree. It feels wrong. But I also love the idea of flying it upside down, kneeling during the anthem or burning it if you really have a reason for doing so. Family that served but also love the 1A. I like people to be serious about it I guess.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@musicman

I believe this kind of stuff is against the flag code. I also just don't like it.

@amerika @phoneboy

sure. you advocate that his friend Moe should be kicked out of the country. if I recall, his daughter is bi. you think she at least shouldn't be able to be public about that.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika @phoneboy

except you hide the negative when you make your argument. you never start with "once we get through with separating the races, suppressing aberrant behavior and making sure only the smartest people have any say in society by..." and then actually describe the process and how life will be better. cause nobody would believe it would play out that way. nobody wants what would actually happen. same thing ancaps do. it's propaganda to get people to do what you want today.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@amerika @phoneboy

no diversity vs freedom. both silly concepts when you dig into them. not even twins lack diversity. every human is limited in their freedom when they live near others who will inevitably disagree with them. it's all philosophy at the level of a child. maybe not even. we teach them to be nice to all kinds of others and share.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@phoneboy @amerika

that's sales. not honest conversation. it's a happy pharma ad followed by a rushed list of side effects. instead of an honest convo with doctors you trust re trade-offs. bad faith.

back to the original subject, when I first started listening, I thought NA was about a rejection of this. of all manner of manipulation. that we'd build a community around that in the world. turns out it's just people against certain kinds of manipulation. in support of their aims, it's fine.

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@phoneboy

you still travel and profit off this diverse world, right? @amerika isn't for leaving people alone. he's not for people moving like you have. he's for acting to not let people live where or how they want. does a LUTFA advocate believe in doing anything collectively if a group starts "dealing with" other LUTFA advocates one by one cause they're too "diverse"?

I still listen to NA. lots of redeeming qualities amidst the shit. with your philosophy, why you keep talking about them IDK.

In ancient hunter-gatherer societies, some people evolved a particular hyper-awareness of their surroundings. They are able to be maintain a low-level awareness of everything around them, and to very quickly separate what's important and deserves attention from what is unimportant. They are able to easily switch tasks and react on instinct to immediately deal with a new situation, often before others have had time to think about it. These hyper-aware individuals were critical to the survival of the tribe, when a predator or danger might appear at any moment, and that quick instinctual action might mean the difference between life and death.

Unfortunately, these individuals sacrificed the ability to focus for long periods on mundane tasks they found uninteresting, even if they knew it had to be done.

Modern society has far fewer immediate dangers. Value is placed on the ability to focus on the mundane; for its people to behave like automatons. There is little place in modern society for people with this hyperawareness trait.

And so, modern society now diagnoses these people as somehow "broken". We invented a name, "ADHD", and called what they are a disorder. From early childhood, we give them mind-altering drugs to transform their personality into something society finds more acceptable. We break our children's minds, because we don't want to deal with them as they evolved to be.

@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@ryan

I think the fat acceptance movement comes from a similar thought process, that some evolved to have a slower metabolism etc that was actually adaptive to pre modern times when food was scarce. but some conservatives mock it.

there's always another way to look at things. I don't get the anger in our politics, except at people who refuse to metaphorically try on other people's shoes. Or reject compromise. Or worst of all, build their brand/business off being an asshole.

I remember when people who thought the election was stolen welcomed defamation suits cause they said it would allow for discovery and expose the conspiracy.

I agree lawfare can go too far. There can be an imbalance in what lawyers you can afford, but expensive lawyers do take cases they think are winnable to get a huge piece of the settlement/damages. Problem there too.

And I don't know how we otherwise stop wannabes from saying crazy shit that can go viral.

wjmaggos, (edited )
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@ryan @Dhowjen @nam

you know me better than this. I am against censorship and pro critical thinking. I guess I misspoke but I am talking about straight up lies that can lead good people to do horrible shit. lawfare should be the last option but I think fear of it is probably helping to stop the worst shit. The Covington kid got a settlement out of CNN and NBC. AJ did a lot to fuck up the lives of the Sandy Hook parents. why not call people you hate pedos and hope somebody takes them out?

wjmaggos,
@wjmaggos@liberal.city avatar

@ryan @Dhowjen @nam

obviously we differ on 2020 but I don't understand why people who think it was stolen don't do more to "restore democracy". I mean it should be time for 1776 shit if you believe that. that it was orchestrated from the top levels etc. I don't get even talking about politics if that's how this government actually works.

so say people did organize and act. lots of people die. and then you find out Trump never believed it. was lying the whole time. oh well. no lawsuits?
