I worked in #HR at one of the outposts of the #empire. One of our jobs was to familiarize US mil and civilian supervisors with the labor laws of the host country.
The effects on 20-something junior US personnel from some backwater state were nothing but stunning.

OrionKidder, I realized something today. I think HR departments exist to pretend to offer the same protections to employees as a union would. That is, HR's job is to give the impression you don't need a union while of course not providing the actual protections of one.

Wo binden sich denn bitte die meisten AG emotional an ihre AN? Im Gros der Firmen ist man als AN nur Mittel zum Zweck, bessergestelltes Nutzvieh. Freilich endet dann die Loyalität dort, wo eine besser bezahlte Stelle anfängt. Überbezahlte HR Abteilungen sind da mit Teil des Problems.

travisfw, We should all be talking about #HR more. The human resources industry doesn't do anything without being pushed. It's all responsiveness to business, and legal compliance. There should be psychologists running the HR department. They should be thinking about abstract business goals, social systems (sociology), and the general well-being of prospectives. People talk about "culture fit" but I haven't seen any serious take on it except wishy-washy feels-right-or-doesn't evaluations.

Harlan_Cloverseed, Research supports work from home as being equally or more productive compared to in-office. Are companies enforcing return to office in order to intentionally induce voluntary terminations? A back door layoff? Or is it because their money is tied up in the office real estate?
