#pnpde
@DeadUnicorn@ttrpg If you're looking for low-fantasy adventuring, or dark fantasy-horror gaming, I have to recommend Trophy. And there's an AMAZING deal on the the PDFs of the game at Bundle of Holding.
Might write some Utility Apps for #BladesInTheDark
Random Generators and such
What sort of thing might folk find useful?
Names? NPC details (personality, traits, etc)?, maps? Room Contents (for flavour, loot, and shenanigans)?
All ideas considered #ttrpg#code#androidDev
Unfortunately most of the group weren't a fan of it so it is unlikely we'll ever play a campaign of it.
It did solve a question I had about this style of game though. I wasn't sure I would like a game where I, as the GM, very rarely roll dice. Turns out I felt totally fine about it.
I also need to get much better at improvisation and try to come with more interesting things for the players to deal with.
@virtualbri One of them felt like it didn't matter how many dots there was in Action it would fail more often than not. An actual fail too, not a partial success.
I thought it was just bad luck but since I don't have experience with the system I couldn't really contest it.
The other one was more of a thematic problem. She isn't much a fan of playing criminals. She prefers to play good people or at least neutral ones. But she was okay with the system.
Is starting the adventure in a tavern a tired fantasy trope? Joke's on you; The Red Right Hand's lair is IN (coffunder) a tavern, so ALL our job's start in a tavern, and it's GREAT, so THERE.
(#Myguy is a Cutter, which should be simple punch-stuff muscle, and which I've of course ruined with complex community obligations.)
On top of my shortlist of games to play in the next year has to be #BladesintheDark. Its one of those games I heard about tangentially in #ttrpg spaces for years.
Then I purchased and read the rulebook. The setting, characters, and gameplay ooze with flavor. Doskvol is grimy and awesome. There are so many cool choices for crews and types of characters.
For #RPGaDay2023 its unplayed. For 2024 I hope to be relaying cool stories of what happened in the game.
You know, there's no question that the first measure for a gm is how good he is to give players a good time, one way or the other. But I hate my players doing session long planning, where the gm gets to do nothing but maybe provide a piece of intel. The GM has a right to play, too, and there's WhatsApp groups or discord channels for excessive planning.
@rivetgeek@wintermin in the same boat — first BitD campaign. I printed out some good cheat sheets but man do I feel clunky. hopefully it'll grow to be more second nature shortly. and i'll remember all these NPC voices...
@rivetgeek@Xzackly I just finished running my second session - it seemed to go a bit more smoothly, and I used some more rules. The players seem to be enjoying it, messing up the lives of their scoundrels and making trouble. They are keen for session 3, and so am I.
