#pnpde
I figured I'd do a bit of a #gamedesign year in review for my #2023
2023 was the year of supplemental material for me. Unlike 2022 everything I published this year built on top of other people's games. That's good and bad; on one hand I got the experience of working under other writing styles and engaging with a bunch of different #fitd hacks. On the other it means that my original works were all pushed back.
I'm really proud of the work I did this year (by and large), so let's get to them!
It shipped with a few typos, but really laid out the game how I think about it, and it included game terminology that I know confused me in the early days.
People are always finding it on itch and bumping up my baseline numbers <3
Might write some Utility Apps for #BladesInTheDark
Random Generators and such
What sort of thing might folk find useful?
Names? NPC details (personality, traits, etc)?, maps? Room Contents (for flavour, loot, and shenanigans)?
All ideas considered #ttrpg#code#androidDev
Time to plan a new heist, scoundrel, with this Blades in the Dark 2 Bundle. This new sequel to our December 2020 offer features the rulebook and play aids for the Blades in the Dark tabletop fantasy roleplaying game from One Seven Design Studio, along with many recent Forged in the Dark standalone games based on the Blades...
Unfortunately most of the group weren't a fan of it so it is unlikely we'll ever play a campaign of it.
It did solve a question I had about this style of game though. I wasn't sure I would like a game where I, as the GM, very rarely roll dice. Turns out I felt totally fine about it.
I also need to get much better at improvisation and try to come with more interesting things for the players to deal with.
Is starting the adventure in a tavern a tired fantasy trope? Joke's on you; The Red Right Hand's lair is IN (coffunder) a tavern, so ALL our job's start in a tavern, and it's GREAT, so THERE.
(#Myguy is a Cutter, which should be simple punch-stuff muscle, and which I've of course ruined with complex community obligations.)
Ahhh, found home after a brief, good start of a few weeks in the Fediverse. Looking forward to exploring and supporting tabletop rpgs here. Of late : joined GenCon Online this year, considering design on an rpg and/or system agonistic mini rpg on social interactions and /or relationships and hoping to play in a Blades in the Dark crew and worldbuilding campaign one day (or similar). I'm also an oldie who is Noobie to Glorantha this year. Partly kicked it off playing at ChaosiumCon 2023.
@nukehavoc Thanks! I've so many #FitD games waiting 4 play, they'd make a multiverse. I want to house rule #Scum And Villainy and Gambits into #BladesInTheDark . #SavageWorlds is the only thing I haven't seen in your list, but have to one shot one day.
On top of my shortlist of games to play in the next year has to be #BladesintheDark. Its one of those games I heard about tangentially in #ttrpg spaces for years.
Then I purchased and read the rulebook. The setting, characters, and gameplay ooze with flavor. Doskvol is grimy and awesome. There are so many cool choices for crews and types of characters.
For #RPGaDay2023 its unplayed. For 2024 I hope to be relaying cool stories of what happened in the game.
#pnpde#fantasy#modernday#scifi
Just found out that the BBC did a Les Misérables miniseries in 2018 or so and now I am be grabbing any and all still photos I can for reference in my Blades game!
I'm having a bit of an interesting time with Blades in the Dark.
I find the game interesting, even compelling, except that it seems to be slanted to intentionally go against the player more often than not. With my luck on dice- and it is almost Wheatonesque much of the time- we are getting roundly stomped most heists.
We've been playing a fair while and just hit Tier 1. Does it ever hit a point where you feel like things are going, uh... well? According to plan? #BladesInTheDark#BITD
