Church of Ecstasy as antagonists
I am running a BitD game currently where my cult crew of PCs have begun to antagonize the Church of Ecstasy. Their cult worships a fungus deity who is seeking rebirth since the Cataclysm....
s5photog, Something about providing an in-world newspaper that makes things more tangible.
Most of this was pulled from the Blades subreddit, where folks were kind enough to share their work which I was able to build on top of.
s5photog, I'm pondering running a one-shot Blades in the Dark game for some folks who wanna try the system
So I HAD to work up my splash/sell page
jesseross, My daughter and I did a double header of Tenet and Inception the other night. I got inspired. #bladesinthedark
s5photog, The devil's bargain doodle in my GM's notebook
#pnpde
DeadUnicorn, My New Year's Resolution is not to play D&D anymore until Hasbro can show they can be trusted... so never. Playing anything else this year. #pathfinder #cypherRPG #7thsea #BladesintheDark #CyberpunkRed
Any other #TTRPG
Any suggestions of must play games for me in 2024? @ttrpg
ArmouredWizard, What do you need to know about your goat?
#BladesInTheDark
s5photog, The final 2023 #BitD game for my crew is tonight!
rivetgeek, @s5photog Oh I like that a lot.
s5photog, @rivetgeek a mish mash of subreddit finds and my own work. Makes for a great splash/campfire page for the game.
ArmouredWizard, Might write some Utility Apps for #BladesInTheDark
Random Generators and such
What sort of thing might folk find useful?
Names? NPC details (personality, traits, etc)?, maps? Room Contents (for flavour, loot, and shenanigans)?
All ideas considered
#ttrpg #code #androidDev

rakuno, Finally got to play a one-session of #BladesInTheDark today.
Unfortunately most of the group weren't a fan of it so it is unlikely we'll ever play a campaign of it.
It did solve a question I had about this style of game though. I wasn't sure I would like a game where I, as the GM, very rarely roll dice. Turns out I felt totally fine about it.
I also need to get much better at improvisation and try to come with more interesting things for the players to deal with.
rakuno, @virtualbri One of them felt like it didn't matter how many dots there was in Action it would fail more often than not. An actual fail too, not a partial success.
I thought it was just bad luck but since I don't have experience with the system I couldn't really contest it.
The other one was more of a thematic problem. She isn't much a fan of playing criminals. She prefers to play good people or at least neutral ones. But she was okay with the system.
doyce, Excited after spending last night setting up characters and crew for a #bladesinthedark #ttrpg with (in part) @GM_Jordan, and run by @highgainsad.
Is starting the adventure in a tavern a tired fantasy trope? Joke's on you; The Red Right Hand's lair is IN (coffunder) a tavern, so ALL our job's start in a tavern, and it's GREAT, so THERE.
(#Myguy is a Cutter, which should be simple punch-stuff muscle, and which I've of course ruined with complex community obligations.)
s5photog, Pretty sure I've read this book 4 or 5 times now ... still so many secrets to unlock
EricHausherr, Day 25: UNPLAYED
On top of my shortlist of games to play in the next year has to be #BladesintheDark. Its one of those games I heard about tangentially in #ttrpg spaces for years.
Then I purchased and read the rulebook. The setting, characters, and gameplay ooze with flavor. Doskvol is grimy and awesome. There are so many cool choices for crews and types of characters.
For #RPGaDay2023 its unplayed. For 2024 I hope to be relaying cool stories of what happened in the game.
nukehavoc, @EricHausherr oh yeah, definitely - it’s great for those “geez, I wish we had a crowbar / C4 / ghost trap” moments.
sonic81, German You know, there's no question that the first measure for a gm is how good he is to give players a good time, one way or the other. But I hate my players doing session long planning, where the gm gets to do nothing but maybe provide a piece of intel. The GM has a right to play, too, and there's WhatsApp groups or discord channels for excessive planning.

Shadowfang, the Smokecat. Loyal Hunting Companion.
wintermin, It’s my first game of #BladesInTheDark tonight! I have no idea how this game works! I hope I don’t have to understand the rules…
…but I’m the GM, and I chose to run this game, so I’m SOL on that front…
How many pages of player handouts and character sheets are you allowed to print at work before they get mad at you? Asking for a friend.
Xzackly, @rivetgeek @wintermin in the same boat — first BitD campaign. I printed out some good cheat sheets but man do I feel clunky. hopefully it'll grow to be more second nature shortly. and i'll remember all these NPC voices...
wintermin, @rivetgeek @Xzackly I just finished running my second session - it seemed to go a bit more smoothly, and I used some more rules. The players seem to be enjoying it, messing up the lives of their scoundrels and making trouble. They are keen for session 3, and so am I.
s5photog, Our newly made crew of Shadows (name to be determined) will have their first score tonight
How will it go? We play to find out!

s5photog, Just found out that the BBC did a Les Misérables miniseries in 2018 or so and now I am be grabbing any and all still photos I can for reference in my Blades game!
s5photog, How did I forget about the BBC Musketeers!!!
s5photog, @rivetgeek 100% now I've got to do some more digging on ye ole google and tumblr for more quality tills
llanion, I'm having a bit of an interesting time with Blades in the Dark.
I find the game interesting, even compelling, except that it seems to be slanted to intentionally go against the player more often than not. With my luck on dice- and it is almost Wheatonesque much of the time- we are getting roundly stomped most heists.
We've been playing a fair while and just hit Tier 1. Does it ever hit a point where you feel like things are going, uh... well? According to plan? #BladesInTheDark #BITD
frequentbeef, Haunted City on the Glass Cannon Network is some top-tier #BladesInTheDark actual play. Very highly recommended. https://mastodon.art/@stjepanlukac/110779074087087797

rivetgeek, Everybody has white whales when it comes to running #TTRPGs. Mine is, surprisingly, #BladesInTheDark. I absolutely love Duskvol's aesthetic (Thief and DIshonored are my favorite video games of all time). Running #ForgedInTheDark comes naturally to me. But when I've run it, it always seems to fall a little flat. I don't know if it's my expectations (nobody has ever complained) or the players aren't as in to it as I am. Maybe I just need to play in a BitD game.
oldgus, @rivetgeek i have a really similar experience with the system. i like the aesthetics, i love the mechanics (and steal from them regularly when running other games), but as a player and as a GM the game always seems to fall short somewhere that i can't quite identify or put into words and left me wondering where i went wrong.
StepYourMind, Dutch @rivetgeek I've just now finished a session of BitD. My 8th-ish session ever? We've been experimenting a bit and I've noticed the atmosphere of Doskvol is very good, but also very specific and therefore hard to do convincingly. Especially in a game that asks for everyone at the table to narratively pitch in.
There's a section in the rulebook about "gothic" storytelling which has helped me a bit: that BitD is about a clash between the magical and the rational, and that a good BitD story should therefore have both, often at odds with each other but sometimes synergizing.
Not much activity here. How's your BitD games going?
