@RickiTarr My sons came up with Doctor Phineas Pheet for our b&w polydactyl cat. The name is a takeoff from an art movie the oldest was shown at school titled The Five Thousand Fingers of Dr. Phineas. It was shortened to Doc, of course. He had 7 claws on each front foot and 5 on the back feet. His footprints in the snow had to be seen to be believed!
@RickiTarr A cat named "Epiphany". We sometimes got mail for the person who lived one street over at the same house number, and I stopped by to drop off their mail and she was standing in her doorway shouting "Pif! Pif!"
"Pif" is an excellent short name for a cat, and "Epiphany" has exactly the right level of gravitas.
@RickiTarr My Ex adopted two rats from an animal shelter. One was black and one was white. They had the names "Brownie" and "Milky way". The Ex didn't like the second name, so I gave her the name "Estrella" (Spanish for "star"). That's a cool name, for a cute, little rat. 🐁

Our cat was called Um Num, we renamed him Phoenix. Unfortunately he got cholangial hepatitis & barely was with us 3 years. He was the sweetest cat.

Last time I was at the vets with my cat, the big, sad vet (who always seems like he is going to give the worst possible news - I call him Eeyore) came out and called in his big, sad voice for a scruffy little dog called Sir Bobby Robson.

That said, even if it’s lost in the crowd, best name I know is the name friends gave to cat, Don’t. They were always seeing it to him, he eventually started responding to it, so why not?
@RickiTarr I'm sure it's been said already but imo the best was Fred the Basset Hound from Smokey and the Bandit. Still makes me smile just thinking about it 😄
@RickiTarr Baron von Fluffenbrain the 4th* was a very scatterbrained kitten when we got him. My oldest son wanted to name him Fluffenbrain but I insisted he had to have a dignified name to grow into. He did grow up into a impressive fellow with immense dignity.

When I first got her, it was going to be something different, but then she went missing on me for like 12 hours.
I couldn't find her anywhere. Ended up walking around my apartment complex with a cat toy in the middle of the hot afternoon in the summer wearing a pair of boxers and a tank top waving a cat toy around going, "here kitty kitty, here kitty kitty."
Never found her. Went back home and then she popped up under my couch. How that cat got under there I'll never know because there was like one inch between the couch and the floor.
After that I started calling her "MIA," short for Missing in Action, which just became Mia, and it's been the same ever since.
