#1 through #69: no push notifications, no feeds on my home screen, nothing I don’t explicitly turn on and configure. No bloat whatsoever, the phone comes practically empty. I got this at the beginning of 2022, before then I kept finding myself reading articles about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Like I could not give less of a fuck about them, that story, whatever. I don’t know who she is, and I don’t particularly like JD movies except maybe Dead Man from the 90s, he probably beat the shit out of her idk. But for some reason I kept finding myself reading these articles on my phone absentmindedly. That kind of shit ended immediately.
Downsides? Not everything works, because there’s no google play, and I couldn’t get it even if I wanted it. I can use most google services on the browser, but for maps I have to use Osmand, which works but doesn’t give me the fastest way to a place, and its kind of a trick to find a specific house or business without looking it up on a computer first and locating the nearest cross street. Schools, hospitals it has saved no problem, but not the optimal routes ore even anything relatively close. Great for my city where I can get myself 98% the way there already knowing the fastest ways around. Out of town we usually use my wife’s navigation.
Those drawbacks are a little annoying but I will never go back to android, and I would never use apple in the first place. I love my phone, it feels like its mine in a way no phone ever has.

It’s nice going back to a favorite DE after using the MM24 for most of the month. The MM24 is a tad more aggressive than I like but boy are the shaves nice and close.
Since legalization in my area, I feel like strains have all melded into a same-y collection. So few places sell the old strains that actually have distinctive qualities. Give me less Banana Brainlet Glue #69 and more Super Lemon Haze. Less Smack Daddy OG Citrus and more Cherry Pie.
I’m an instructor of beginner photographers. On Sunday, I send an email with tips, tricks, articles, pictures, etc. Info I think students can use. It’s for both “regular” camera users and those who shoot with smartphones.
There’s mention of things to do where I am, but it’s mostly for beginning #photography students to help them take better photos - It's NOT for advanced shooters. 😃
PBN #69 - “Photographer”, shadows, don’t get a “better” camera!
1/4 "Barbarians" by Jacek Markusiewicz impresses me like no other recent work of #GenerativeArt has.
The images of majestic mountain slopes and neatly arranged fields – with occasional buildings strewn in between them – at first feel strangely detached and bland, thanks to a distant, aerial point of view and bleached, bright colours. Yet the way the landscapes are unexpectedly interrupted by smooth, deep, geometrical gashes appears alien and out of place.
2/4 This juxtaposition of nature and incomprehensible architecture gives rise to feelings of awe, wonder and sorrow, and reminds me a lot of what I feel when I look at the artist's previous masterpiece "Hollow", while aesthetic and subject immediately made me think of @monotau's equally astonishing 2022 #fxhash project "Cradle".
@skullvalanche haha right around the exact same time! This was used for the cover of Dragon magazine #69 in 1983 (Clyde made this in 82) - and since Army was 93, and the third of the Evil Dead franchise which started in 81, I mean these things were neck and neck hahaha
#ConsumerUnions are a complementary way to help more companies unionize and to support existing worker #Unions, right? Is this common knowledge?
I don't see a lot of chatter like organizing folks to buy goods & services from union shops and to lobby the non-union companies they do business with to unionize (or get out of the way — or BE SUPPORTIVE — when the workers finally do). But this seems to make so much sense, I assume it's happening and I just haven't read enough or found my people.
@geographile
Recently I started thinking of Consumer Unions less as reactive boycott machines and more as decentralized guerilla orgs, organizing purchasing behavior around a prior agreed upon agenda.
Then my hypothetical consumer union — Bay Area Wirecutters #69 — on a yearly cadence in June when traditionally all BAW69 members renew their yearly television streaming subs, can encourage members to prefer one streaming company over another.

Fragrance: Barrister & Mann - Lavenille - EdP
Yesterday I used Palmolive cream, so I figured today I would continue with mass produced products. Proraso Red has a wonderful sandalwood scent. The performance is decent. Good enough, as they say.
Lavenille EdP is very nice! It’s super similar to Lavender, Interrupted, but has more of a vanilla kick, where Lav, Inter has more of a smooth, classy, late night warmth.

Varen is one of my favorites, and I am sad to see it go.
Varen comes in the mutton tallow base, and as such it was discontinued with the rest of them when mutton got too expensive a year or two ago.
Later, the price of mutton went back down, and the mutton soaps returned! Rejoice!
Unfortunately, when I check the Stirling website, Maggard, etc… Varen seems to be sold out everywhere. Has anybody had their ear to the ground about that?
So, this might be my last Varen shave ever. In order to give it the respect that it deserves, I used an unscented aftershave and no frag today.
NASA's Ingenuity helicopter continues its exploration of Mars, recently completing its 70th flight on December 22nd, 2023. That flight was fairly average, completing 260 meters. The previous two were record breakers, with flight 68 going 702 meters and #69 flying 705 meters across the Martian surface. With the helicopter having completed its primary objectives, NASA is finding its limits, pushing it farther, higher, and faster than ever.
Just found a perfect example of why Semantic Versioning is the way and the truth and the life.
Even if you're using a weird homegrown versioning scheme, as a minimum your version numbers should monotonically increase (i.e. a version number that is larger when interpreted as an N-digit integer must refer to a newer version of the software).
"Our version numbering follows the format major.minor.PR, where PR is the number of the most recently merged pull request. This will result in the PR number often skipping values, and occasionally decreasing. The tagged release of a new minor version will have the format major.minor.0."
