I wonder, as a matter of communication strategy, why this is hasn't been used more frequently as a widespread description for the criminal acts of the #IDF and #Israeli citizens participating in the blockade of #Gaza. Is it simply because it is not as well known (and so has less emotional resonance) as genocide?
Under international law, there is also the crime of #starvation, which is distinct as well, which has its own standards.
Though it wasn't until the 1970s that starvation was accepted by the US and its western allies as a crime against humanity. Even after the horrors of #WWII (including especially the Siege of #Leningrad, the most destructive and fatal siege in human history), the US and its allies still wanted to maintain the right to use starvation as a weapon of war.
So it seems that the same events and actions could potentially be prosecuted under murder, extermination, starvation or genocide, with each crime requiring somewhat different levels and types of evidence to prove.
The 7 October 2023 massacre of Israeli armed forces and civilians by Palestinian armed forces is not overlooked; and it's not just "cruel wicked". The killings of the civilians clearly constitute either a #CrimeAgainstHumanity or a one-day act of #Genocide ; and the suspects will either become eternal fugitives or will be tried at the ICC in The Hague [1], which will decide, based on the evidence, the legal status of the crimes.

The state of #Israel has been holding thousands of #Palestinians for years, many of them children. Some get a secret military trial. Some get no trial. Whether you call them accused criminals, political prisoners, or #hostages, the reality is that this is a key plank in the #ApartheidIsrael system, and is a key stated reason for #Hamas retributive violence. Keeping hostages is a #WarCrime. #Apartheid is a #CrimeAgainstHumanity.
Why are these legal terms of international humanitarian law #taboo?
Why can't the @EU_Commission triple the #ICC 's 150 MEUR/year budget [2]? Give 300 MEUR no-strings-attached to the ICC. This would only be a tiny dent in the EU budget.

The West has spent almost 80 years demonizing Palestinians. That too is a human rights crime.

Their donations are down and they need funds to help stop death row inmates from getting executed, many of which could be factually innocent. I'm anti #deathpenalty and anti #capital punishment. @rahmstorf I used to think this would not be in my lifetime and by generating our own power, having own water supply and growing our own food, my family & I would be able to eke out a reasonable life if we were somehow able to keep what we’d built for ourselves. @aral Actually, resisters of injustice and exploitation are usually nice people - just not to those who look the other way to whom they are also a nuisance/interfering/…. Think @juststop_oil- they’re the most wonderfully nice people - thoughtful, considerate, non-violent. They are, however, disruptive of “business as usual” and all that entails: #crimeagainsthumanity

Those suffering are not responsible we are - especially Europe and North America. We started polluting earlier and we continue to pollute at home as well as outsource much of our polluting consumption to China.
