Musk undercuts the Biden admin's EV charging initiative:
"Elon Musk has upended a deal the WH saluted early last year to open Tesla’s chargers to other automakers, dealing a blow to Pres Biden’s EV agenda.
Musk decided in the last week to eliminate almost the entire Supercharger team at Tesla. He hasn’t publicly confirmed the move or offered a rationale, but has said the co will slow the expansion of its charging network."
Musk let the nation down by cutting the Supercharger team, so there'll be fewer charging stations, but there's now 1 fast-charging station for every 5 gas stations in CA, Gov Newsom says.
"This is all in an effort to build out the INFRA in the state of CA that currently totals 105K EV chargers for public use & ~10,000 of these supercharging stations," said Newsom in a video posted on X on Sat. "All of this to continue the progress of we're making in CA."
Musk hasn't revealed his plans after he cut Tesla's Supercharger Team. Ford thinks the EV station buildout will be fine, but GM is concerned:
"Elon Musk’s move to lay off the department responsible for Tesla’s electric vehicle chargers has touched off worries in the auto industry that EVs from other automakers will have trouble joining Tesla’s network."
I remember one time I was at the IKEA near Portland Internation Airport and they had removed a couple of the public chargers around 2-3 years ago. I didn't notice if they put them back when I swung by a few months ago.
Green Car Report: Study: Some retailers aren't doing much to support EV charging
Yay: Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi are switching over to NACS in North America, including adapters for existing vehicles
Meh: It won't happen until 2025
At this point, Volvo/Polestar and BMW have overtaken Volkswagen/Porsche/Audi on my list of brands/marques to consider, at least when it comes to European companies

There are now more than 500 Xeal chargers on college campuses nationwide!
Thanks to Xeal’s Apollo protocol, none of them require connectivity to college networks - something I know first hand that college IT teams really appreciate.
Oregon DOT (ODOT) has awarded funding for 370 new level 2 EV chargers throughout the state. Not that many in Washington County and a few to multi-family housing locations.
The thesis in the latter half of this article that maybe we shouldn't be trying to recreate the gas refueling experience with EVs isn't unsound, and is compelling. But I think there's more context to be had here.
For one, oil major adoption of EV charging is a lagging indicator. They primarily got us into this mess, so we should never expect them to lead on solutions (though we damn sure better try to hold them to account).
