Almost a year exclusively using GrapheneOS for mobile and (many years before that) GNU/Linux for all my computing.
How quickly one gets spoiled. Found myself obliged over the past few days to help relatives use Windows and iOS. It was deeply shocking.
Windows on newish hardware is so slow that I didn't think it was responding. To say nothing of the privacy and usability nightmare.
And the Apple ratchet has tightened down a few more clicks in a year. A very high quality third party app that I bought years ago now appears in a new version "with in-app purchases," and the splash screen requires me to sign in via Google or Facebook. Perfectly ghastly.
#Librewolf debe ser el único navegador que ofrece buenas #alternativas en materia de buscadores por defecto. En este aspecto ni siquiera #Vanadium de #GrapheneOS acierta. El mérito donde procede.
Feeling tempted to install GrapheneOS on my Pixel 7a, but am afraid I'll screw something up as a semi-technical person and will lose my warranty etc. Can I bring back Android ROM in case something goes wrong... ?
my wife needs to work with the instagram app for work (yes, I know, but it is that way). So we installed it in a work profile on her android phone (to keep the data in the normal profile safe from the app). The phone is running #GrapheneOS perfectly fine.
Unfortunately, she cannot access the pictures on the normal profile from the instagram app. File shuttle is enabled in shelter and works in the files app, but apparently not from the instagram app. At least we find no way to access the files.
Has anyone done this before? Any hints, tips or tricks?
@giapi Yes, they get updated through the sandboxed Play Store which doesn't need to ask for itself (Play Store) but does need to ask for Play services when it isn't already the installer due to the standard rules for automatic updates by sandboxed apps. You're meant to approve it updating Play services.
We control which versions it can update to and we test their Beta releases and add them before they're Stable so if you don't opt-in to Play services Beta the updates are allowed in practice.
