What's the correct/best MO for extended Battery Life? Let it run on batteries at night and recharge them from Solar in the morning >>or<< changeover to Mains at night and keep the batteries fully charged?

Australia’s ‘white gold’ was supposed to fuel the EV transition – then prices for battery minerals collapsed

  • kkarhan,

@solaradmin Depending on your battery you may actually want to ridiculously overprovision stuff...

For example, batteries last exponentially longer the less they get discharged, so having 20% depth of discharge even at half capacity and 50% in total at worst will quadruple the lifespan of said cells...

So I'd not say it's overprovisioned unless your solar charger can barely keep up with self-discharge...

OFC on lead-acid, lead-gel and AGM cells you may have different parameters...

Adding 200 watts of solar power to my vehicle, just like that. Spent way too much time on the mount itself. Also spent a good bit of time routing wires, installing connectors etc.

Received some of the first Na-Ion (sodium ion) batteries from Alibaba recently:

    18650 form factor
    Capacity: 1300mAh
    Weight: 37.2g
    Nominal voltage: 3.2V
    Charge cutoff: 4.0V
    Discharge cutoff: 2.0V

Quite interesting cells, very cheap at ~0.60 Euro/pcs retail (even now already)

0.3A discharge was cut short due to software issues.

Was also my first time working with SCPI/LXI.

top view of a 18650 Na-Ion cell, showing a cyan/blue isolator between the plastic wrapping and the cell itself
Na-Ion battery discharge curve as a diagram Cell being discharged at 0.3A, 1A and 3A. Internal resistance causes a shift in voltage proportional to the current being drawn (as expected). Very linear discharge curve from 200-800mAh, slightly flatter region after that until it drops steeply.
Photo of the test setup. Devices shown: Korad KEL103 electronic load, currently idling Rigol DP832 DC power supply, currently charging the cell at 1A

"Think about it: 2/3 of that good farm land is wasted. 2/3 of the water to irrigate the corn, thrown away. 2/3 of the fertiliser & the attendant runoff: for nothing. 2/3 of the fossil fuels burned for energy to work the land & process the ethanol: wasted"

Fediverse help me

I'm looking for a COTS or MOTS option here. I can do some soldering if need be.

I am looking for a DC input charge control board for some batteries. Ideally 12, 24, or 48 volts, and at least 100 Watts. 2 stage constant current/constant voltage, of course.

I have searched high and low and everything available is an AC/DC converter. I specifically want a DC input.

Anyone know if mttp chargers are acceptable to use with DC voltage generators?
