Peel Road @ Kuala Lumpur, famous for its chinese-style nasi lemak shop but the whole street is filled with great food options. The kopitiam occupying the corner shop is fully halal/muslim-friendly and hosts a good selection of Malay, chinese and Indian food stalls.

A closer look at the corner shop, revealing many stalls operating inside a restaurant, with stall owners preparing food and washing dishes. The old building has old and tattered wooden window panes. On the rooftop, someone has grown various ornamental plants and small trees.

Fancy-ish restaurant hidden inside Chinese new village in Kajang. Food is decent but nothing to shout about.

Yesterday’s humble but low-key luxurious dinner at a Chinese mixed rice shop. Please ignore the unsightly way we stuffed tissue paper under the plate, we are not refined people.

Hakka braised pork is one of those dishes that tastes much better than it looks. This restaurant is hidden inside Sungai Chua’s new village, which is a very Hakka area.

Other dishes we ordered: tofu deep fried in salted egg sauce and kangkung belacan (water convolvulus stir-fried in spicy shrimp paste).

Todays dinner: Curry pan mee @ Hung Kee Pan Mee along Jalan Reko

The noodles are decent but nothing to shout home about (I should have ordered their kon loh pan mee instead) but the red bean soup is tasty with lots of coconut milk and sago pearls.

Reunion dinner - Hakka stuffed oysters, steamed golden pompano, steamed chicken, fish maw soup, roast duck, vegetables.

All my mom’s cooking except the roast duck which was bought from a stall in Cheras.

Where else can you order half a duck, two offal dishes, two servings of nasi minyak, and two cups of tea for less than RM50?

This very old shop along Jalan Reko, Kajang is somewhat obscure and easy to miss, their curry laksa is one of the best out there with thick & perfectly balanced soup and springy wonton noodles (IMO the usual curry laksa with alkaline noodles are terrible).

The shop owner’s cat is in the second picture.

A gray-and-white cat with a long fluffy tail and beautiful blue eyes begging for food.
A plate of flat rice noodles tossed with a dark sauce and with thick creamy curry gravy poured over it and topped with tofu puffs and fried wontons.
A small plate of chicken and gizzard curry.
