Last summer in Phoenix I was just sure the record-breaking heat wave killed off the many decades’ old rose bushes out front of my home. Despite my aggressive pruning and spray treatment for a fungicide for thrips, Voilá they are doing fine! Never saw 6 full blooms at once in a giant cluster. #Phoenix#Bloomscrolling#Roses#Red
Not sure what they’re doing on 3rd Ave, south of Thomas. I assume it’s bike lane. They’ve built curbs in the middle of the one-way road. If the right (East) side is a bike lane, it’s ENORMOUS. Easily big enough for a large car lane.
You can never have too many flowers. Or the aroma of flowers that drifts out 25-40 feet away as these star jasmine vines do. I finally found my jasmine fertilizer so the pots just greedily soaked up very nutrient-rich water. We went over 100° today! I read that using this fertilizer will help prolong blooming. If scientists figured out commercially viable ways to capture scent for release later, I’d recommend the scent of jasmine. Really stays in my memory. #BloomScrolling#Jasmine#Phoenix
TIL we (#Phoenix) just got rid of the Coyotes ice hockey team.
I honestly didn’t know they’d finally got the hell out of town. I honestly thought they’d be sucking off the teat of my tax dollars and fucking up traffic for another 50 years.
No photo today but picture this: on patio with my legs up, enjoying a great hamburger with a brewski, looking out across the pool which is now ready to go whenever it is hot enough. Ahhhh! It’s 85° now almost 7:30 pm. Got my shorts and sandals ready to go and it’s so pleasant right now.
Remember I said all this when I start to complain mightily in another month when the next heat wave comes. The weather right now is just perfect. 😍 #Phoenix#Arizona
Omigosh the Star Jasmine vines are growing and blooming! I’ve waited 8 months for magic to happen. I think in maybe just 3 days the plants will be covered in tiny white flowers and maybe on a week there could be 1,000. The aroma is incredible. I only smelled it once in San Diego about 8 years ago and have wanted to try growing it all this time. #Flowers#Jasmine#BloomScrolling#Phoenix#Arizona
#Phoenix#BikeTooter TIL Oak St has a pedestrian bridge across Highway 51. That makes Oak a passable cycle route from 3rd st to about 47th st (maybe as far as Scottsdale Rd. That’ll be a test for another day.)
I’ve ridden it on weekdays and it is a bit traffic heavy for a minor street, but was peaceful this morning.
Just back from a 47.2km bike ride with @donburnside. Quite an adventure that included looking for (and finding) my lost phone that bounced out of it's holder when we were way off course and river-rock hopping.
It may also have included a couple of beer stops. Gotta stay hydrated!
So far, I’ve seen no one disappear at the #Arizona Science Center as we watch the #eclipse together outside. That either means we’re all heathens, or the #rapture is bullshit.
Heya it’s Friday! What are you all doin’? We are nestled into the ER lobby and hoping to get Drew in for the migraine cocktail IV. Hoping we are in and out in less than 6 hours or so. Hospital expecting a big rush because the NCAA women’s Final Four is here and the local street party First Friday in Phoenix. He had his record 23 day migraine then 5 days none. Yesterday, blammo! It’s back. A STAT order for MRI is set for a week from now. #Migraine#Phoenix
Only 6 1/2 hours so that’s good. Drew feels better but out of it. Ahmed is tucking him in bed now. Just hoping that maybe we caught this migraine in time to knock it out with the IV drugs. We learned today he is going to have a hard time likely now on getting an IV put in. His veins are pretty small now. #Migraine#Phoenix
#ExtremeHeat Is Endangering America's Workers—and Its Economy
"Public Citizen, a Washington, D.C., based consumer rights advocacy group, estimates that extreme heat contributes to between 600 and 2,000 deaths a year, along with 170,000 injuries, making heat one of the three main causes of death and injury in the American #workplace.
In most American states, you can be fined for leaving a dog outside without water or shade."
[Workers don't have such protection].
