"#LONDON, #UnitedKingdom– Lloyd’s of #London underwriters are leading insurers in raising rates and cutting the amount of cover they offer for risks involving #Taiwan as concerns grow over possible military action by #China, industry sources with knowledge of the matter say."
"Milley, who is #Catholic, afterwards told reporters traveling with him that the visit meant a great deal to him, according to Milley’s spokesperson, Colonel Dave Butler.
The general, who is visiting several European countries, said the Pope was deeply concerned about the loss of life in #Ukraine, particularly of civilians, since #Russia invaded in February 2022."
A reporter asks Pope Francis how he can say that "all" are welcome in the Catholic church when LGBTQ people and women are, as anyone with eyes to see can see, treated as second-class citizens.
Francis's reply: well, all are welcome, but certain rules apply to LGBTQ people and women within the church that don't apply to others.
Notably to men. Especially to straight men, who have extraordinary privilege in the church.
Francis's PR argument is a very hard argument to make right at the moment that steps are underway for a global synod to which Catholics of every sort have been invited, at which Catholics of every sort are free to speak —
But,. notably, not one single openly gay LGBTQ Catholic has been invited to the synod.
Openly gay LGBTQ Catholics are welcome in the church. They are just not welcome to speak — in their own voices — at the synod.
