I wish this interview from the day after #Sinead on SNL, were widely seen.
Her childhood abuse, high sensitivity, devotion to truth & humanity, & her deep processing of history, put her ahead of her time.
When she said the cycle of child abuse, instigated globally by churches (partnered w/colonial powers), is at the root of addictions & suffering, she was 100% right. GOP's 6 Catholic abusers rely on corruption, lies, & control of women's bodies & labor. She fought it.
Hundreds of people turned out in the picturesque Irish coastal town of Bray for the funeral cortege of acclaimed artist Sinead O'Connor who died last month at the age of 56.
In addition to her family and friends, Irish leaders were also present at O'Connor's memorial service.
Just finished a Dedication / Memoriam video to Sinéad O'Connor. I was tasked by the always wonderful AcoustiCafe crew in Pittsburgh, PA. The video is free to share, so here you go!
This video collects the songs, filmed and edited by Wes Mason Media, sound by Jeremy Caywood, and organized by Meghan King Johnson . In addition to Meghan, performers include Morgan Erina, Mark Dignam, brad yoder, Samantha Marino, Danny Rectenwald, Sara Masters, Maleena Domenick, Kelly Zullo ( Kelly Zullo & The Invisible Circus ), Cassie Prentiss and JuliAnne Wright!
#Sinead
Sick of reading coverage about Sinéad O'Connor, written by others claiming to know her mind, I just listened to the audio book of her memoir "rememberings".(read by her)
Sinead O’Connor Danced on the Edge of the Dark All Her Life
Auden wrote of Yeats, “Mad Ireland hurt you into poetry.” Cruel Ireland hurt Ms. O’Connor into song. She called Ireland a theocracy. She was furious that in a country that had supposedly fought for and won its freedom, women and children were so silenced and disempowered. She understood and had experienced pain, neglect and injustice and sang for those who also knew these things.
What a story by AP:
'Death threats forced Irish pop singer #Sinead O’Connor to call off a peace #concert in #Jerusalem in the summer of 1997. At the time, a young man named #Itamar#Ben-Gvir took credit for the campaign against her.
Vigils tomorrow at Fairview Footbridge and every bridge over the Liffey for #Sinead (apologies, I don't have access to a PC right now so can't include #AltText - could someone #Alt4Me please)
Hard to put into words all the feelings when I think about #SineadOConnor. In a world that told her that women were polite, seen and not heard, and well behaved, she said an emphatic F you, and stood up for what she believed in, even when it wasn't popular or easy. She was the OG "difficult woman". Be more Sinéad. Be a difficult woman.
‘An incredible loss’: Ireland shares memories of Sinéad O’Connor as they recall her courage, kindness and humour.
Ireland is remembering Sinéad O’Connor – and grasping what it has lost.
For some people in Glenageary and Dún Laoghaire – the south Dublin suburbs where the singer grew up – the news of her death still had an air of unreality on Thursday.
I agree 100 percent with ICE-T regarding Sinead O’Connor when contrasted with people in general: most people in the world do not stand for anything at all. The vast majority of us stand for our own existence and survival, and not too much else. This is the painful, human truth. If we could see outside and beyond ourselves more often…🙏🏿
I've been listening to The Lion and the Cobra, Sinéad O'Connor's first album, on repeat for weeks. It has such beauty and power, the full voice of a storm
Kathryn Ferguson's documentary Nothing Compares (2022) is excellent, if you get a chance to see it. Focuses on Sinéad's early years of fame and infamy, placing them in a political and social context and showing how her upbringing shaped her character and her artistic style: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djZFgiTgctY
