Ads can see you too and they collect a lot of data of you, which will be processed, sold, processed again and sometimes an #ai is involved to process it even more and create connections with other data.
The CO2 output of all this processes is really high. You can end it by installing an add-on called #ublockorigin for your browser:
And it already blocks a lot of stuff after installing. But I would recommend to go to the settings and activate some more filters, like the annoyance or social media filter.
btw. you will love the element zapper. It allows you to select an item on a website and just hide it! It is one of the best things to hide annoying stuff.

Get the most out of your #AdBlocker on Vivaldi on #Android by Managing your Ad Blocking sources.
You can add, enable and disable the Blocking Lists in Vivaldi's integrated Tracker and Ad Blocker. Find the settings to do so under Privacy in your browser settings. 😎
I believe it is time to ban advertising. Now, I realize that much of the internet depends on advertising for its revenue, but that is offset by the fact that I don't give a fuck
@ReticentTurnip personally, I want more agressive #Adblocker that'll literally filter all #ads on sight to be come the norm so that #advertising - espechally online - can only work to attract stupid SEO-oriented #bots.
In the last week or so, #AdBlocker Ultimate has been a problem for me. Many of the sites I go to, stall without explanation. Disabling AdBlocker for that site solves the problem every time. Are others having this problem? #windows#firefox
I see a lot of people believe there is no way to have #privacy online. Corporations have pushed so hard that many are persuaded and disillusioned.
Privacy-compliant alternative software exists and it's up to you to choose and promote it.
Tracking tools are not required but wanted technologies: it is not something inevitable inside a software.
When you see it that way, your approach to software change and you will also learn to love #ethical software as you know how to appreciate organic food.
In 1998, two Stanford kids published a paper in Computer Networks: "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine," in which they wrote, "Advertising funded search engines will be inherently biased towards the advertisers and away from the needs of consumers."
If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog:
While most of the responses evinced solidarity and frustration and recounted similar incidents in other domains, a significant plurality of the replies were #ScamApologetics - messages from people who wanted to explain why this wasn't a problem after all.
The most common of these was victim-blaming: "you should have used an #AdBlocker" or "never click the #SponsoredLink."
The FBI advises AdBlocker because of attack vector from cybercriminals and that will mean quite a bit. I advise you to be careful which one you use, because some are also malware and I recommend @ublockorigin.
