peertube while it still needs work, atleast the content library is getting better.
When I was using it back in october there was content but not to the extent of what's on their now. It's almost identical to the early 2010s of the type of content you can find. Just emptier comment sections.
No #ads , and no #adblocker pop-up blockers. it's great. It's also great the type of content that can be found on there if you do more specific searches like for idk.. Sonic, Sanic, Flandre scarlet, touhou, Pokemon, Naruto, Mario and even Minecraft might return something these days on Peertube.
however they are still lacking on modern stuff, particularly the kind to draw interest from #tiktokers . Or you're modern day #YouTuber or twitch user.

The first extension you probably want is the #uBlock Origin #adblocker. Yes, it blocks almost every ad, but it also blocks the data collection attempts realted to those ads, which is as important.

If you use an #adBlocker and have noticed that some websites don't work correctly, here's a suggestion that may help:
Disable the DuckDuckGo #TrackerRadar blocklist compiled by #Blokada, as it contains many false positives, i.e. domains wrongly classified as serving ads or trackers.
The reason I had been unable to determine the root cause for a long time was that Firefox only said “connection refused”, due to @tblock modifying the Hosts file.
One for my fellow #Weather nerds and # IOS users this arvo: I use the #Purify#AdBlocker on my #IPad, and sometime this morning they finally decided that the Australian #BureauOfMeteorology website (which has long needed to change from http to https but hasn’t) was a baddie - and so blocked images. Took me ages to figure out what was happening (I blame too much blood in my caffeine stream) but then just a quick toggle. Yay for strong adblockers, boo to underfunded government systems!

Google wants to make it harder to block ads. Thought experiment:
If, instead of ad blocking per se, we used browser extensions that blocked all tracking, prevented execution of arbitrary code, and made fingerprinting devices impossible, but also left all ad content visible, would Google (and the rest of their industry) still be opposed?

I say all the time on here that using an #adblocker is a way of protecting yourself because ad delivery platforms are a huge vector for malware and #phishing. This would be largely fixable if the owners of these platforms cared, but they don’t.
Auch deswegen nutze ich YouTube nicht direkt, sondern Links über @invidious* oder nutze es mobil via @newpipe*, um Videos zu sehen und so weit frei vom Tracking zu sein. Leider sind noch nicht sehr viele anregende Videoproduktionen im Fediverse zB auf @peertube vertreten.
