#NorthYorkshire Council to phase out #apostrophe use on #streetsigns To Avoid #Database Problems
The North Yorkshire Council in England announced it will ban apostrophes on street signs as it can affect geographical databases. Resident Anne Keywood told the BBC that she urged the authority to retain apostrophes, saying: "If you start losing things like that then everything goes downhill doesn't it?" https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-68942321
Ok, so I just tried writing a text in #Apostrophe for the first time, and here are some thoughts
The headerbar is quite concrete and intruding with its 3dmentionality and all the buttons. I guess this is mostly the fault of an old libadwaita which will be updated, right? Thankfully it can autohide, which is brilliant!
No way to autosave is crazy, right?
The same is the fact that you can only choose normal or large text size, let me choose whatever increment I want
Seems strange that the default format is not plain markdown, but a version of md. But I'm no md expert, for all I know that version is the most common?
Things that would be nice:
Import color schemes
Mark search results in scrollbar
"Inline preview" (show both the markdown-code and the effect it has)
A ToC sidebar? A library? Too much?
Overall, it was a good experience writing in #Apostrophe. But as a #Gnome Circle app it needs a bit more work IMO, but I think that's happening :)
@jamesthomson
"Over 50s" are probably the group most likely to be outraged by a misplaced #apostrophe , so I'd have to agree with you there, mate. #English#fogies
