Adding the finishing touches 🖌️
The image in this ancient Greek cup depicts a helmet-maker concentrating on adding the final touches to a Corinthian helmet.
The cup with its scene of ancient daily life had already been broken and repaired in antiquity before it was placed into a tomb, possibly of a helmet-maker. It was found only in fragments sometime in the 19th century and subsequently heavily restored.
Glasgow's Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has many treasures in it, but this is probably the one which most facinated me as a child.
It's a suit of armour from Kiribati in Micronesia. The body covering is made from coconut while the helmet is made from the inflated and then dried skin of a porcupine fish. The sword is lined with shark teeth, creating a highly effective weapon which would both slash and tear at flesh in equal measure.
We let Ukraine fight their offensive without enough aircover and air assets, the result is the Ka-52s destroying a lot of armour delivered by western countries. It makes no sense.... #Ukraine#Ka52#Armour#aircover
