After staying 54 sols at the same spot (because of the drill campaign and conjunction), go!

The rover has been on Mars for more than 4000 sols, and has seen 6 Earth solar conjunctions in the 11+ Earth years of its life on the Red planet. It's still going strong, as is its team, who produce wonderfully detailed reports on what the veteran rover has been or plans to be working on.

Currently assigned target names, like Cobra Turret, Fang Turret, Gorge of Despair, Brittle Bush, come from the area near Bishop, CA.

Saturday is the day I work on the newsletter.

Browsing in the past sketchnotes and the tons of loose notes I found this sketchcap (sketchnoters recap) of this post https://www.mindful.org/the-science-of-curiosity/

This was shared in this issue of the newsletter https://maurotoselli.substack.com/p/keep-the-creative-juices-flowing-issue-3-connecting-the-dots-975710

Well, I think it’s worth sharing it here too

During the coming solar conjunction of Mars, and the moratorium in communications, will use its color camera to study the movement of sand, which poses an ever-present challenge to Mars missions.

The moratorium will last from Nov 11 to 25. More about what the spacecrafts will do on Mars during this time, here:

Note: Mars solar conjunction, i.e. the Sun goes between the Earth and Mars, starts 2 weeks from now, and there will be little to no activity for about 10-14 days.

That's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, if you ask me.

#Curiosity continues its busy schedule, and plans to observe layered bedrock Charybdis, but the team notes:

"Note for Greek mythology enthusiasts: We have investigated a target named “Scylla” in the past, but the Rover Planners will continue to drive Curiosity along the MSAR (Mount Sharp Ascent Route), so fortunately Curiosity should not find itself between Scylla and Charybdis in the future."
😀 👍 !

What got you started doing the Things(tm) you do?

I'll start. I got into quilting because when I got married my husband told me I needed a hobby. I sewed casual clothing for two years and finally succumbed to trying a quilt (a friend had been encouraging me the whole 2 years). It was the first time people weren't telling me I was doing anything wrong (aesthetically). All I got was encouragement.

It’s still hard for me to believe that everything in cellular I learned in in the early 90’s had been discovered as little as 40 years before.

It all seemed so definitive, so orderly, all set in stone, like it was obvious it had to be known since forever, it was so elegant! Stop telling me scientists in 1952 did not know this!!

I’m humbled by , and by the gargantuan size of our .

Curiosity Has Spent Three Years Trying to Reach This Spot on Mars
Getting to this location, called Gediz Vallis Ridge, was not easy. For Curiosity to be able to take this photo, it took three different attempts to reach the top of the ridge.
“After three years, we finally found a spot where Mars allowed Curiosity to safely access the steep ridge,”
