I’m going to recap ’s “An American in Austen” over at Excessively Diverting (https://excessivelydiverting.substack.com/). The movie is on tonight at 8 p.m. EST and the issue will be out n a few days.

Premise: “Harriet, who thinks that no real man compares to Mr. Darcy, is transported into Pride & Prejudice and gets an unexpected chance to find out.”

I try not to buy paper books anymore so as not to accumulate more stuff. But some things are worth it. I have finally treated myself to a special Chronicle Books edition of Pride and Prejudice. Each letter is reproduced and included in a sleeve within the book. The edition is beautiful. But now I am afraid to open the letters due to a worry I will never be able to fold them again and put them back.

Pride and Prejudice Chronicle Books edition from the top, you can see the pages separated by sleeves containing letters
Pride and Prejudice Chronicle Books edition inside, two envelopes shown on right. envelopes have handwritten addresses. Top, miss Elizabeth. Bottom, Mrs. M (gardiner, not visible)

If you want more facts on Day, read the Austen and Issue 3 here: https://open.substack.com/pub/excessivelydiverting/p/austen-bronte-issue-3-pride-and-prejuduice?r=1ep55&utm_campaign=post&utm_mediumLoveuarywWelcome=true. I also update on Hallmark Channel's Loveuary theme which for the month of February are all Austen inspired movies and I'll be recapping them via the newsletter.

  • Novel was finished in 1797
  • It has sold over 20 million copies and has never been out of print

Apparently it is the only book that my very bookish other half has read twice. She has seen various adaptations multiple times...
