This ledge was the last thing between me and the final approach to a summit on a #trail I hiked early last May. The 15-foot-high structure was #ice-free and dry, making the foot holds easy. Looking to hike this trail again soon on my first multi-day backpacking trip of the year! Camping below the #snow line, then hiking up into the wintry upper elevations. #FootpathFriday #mountains #snowshoeing #hiking #backpacking #nature #NaturePhotography #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography

Happy #MountainMonday! This is the beautiful view from the summit that I snowshoed to in my last two hikes this winter in the White #Mountains, #NewHampshire. The #snow is melting quickly now, so I may have to bid farewell (for now) to the great experiences of #snowshoeing as we enter the season of spring #backpacking and #camping (bring on the mud!!). #hiking #nature #NaturePhotography #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography #outside #GetOutside

Have a great #weekend, everyone! Hope you can do something you enjoy, such as an adventure or kicking back and relaxing. Here is a pic of me doing both earlier this week-- relaxing at a summit after a long morning's hike up the mountain. That felt so great! #TGIF #mountains #ice #snow #snowshoeing #hiking #backpacking #nature #NaturePhotography #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography #outside #GetOutside

Today we had a lot less sunshine, but we made it to our goal Monte Castello and back, before the snowfall started.

My descent down the mountain earlier this month began with this beautiful view, but also a steep section of trail— about 45 deg slope— the most challenging of the hike. The was heavy and unconsolidated; my snowshoes could not get traction and wanted to turn into skis! I got down safely by stomping the snow and going down “stair step” style, sideways. Fun!

Three years ago, I headed into this wilderness on snowshoes— my first time ever on such an adventure. It was at this moment, before I even got deeply into the forest, that I felt “hooked”. The beauty of this , plus feeling at peace with the quiet solitude, was beyond words. From that point on, was a passion of mine.

Final approach to the summit in last week’s hike in the White , NH. The became a bit tricky at this point as the route (no longer resembling a “trail”) was above the tree line and alternated between patches of ice/snow and bare rock slab. Very exciting to reach this point after having hiked/snowshoed up 3,000’ of elevation gain. 😀

2/ This snowshoeing trip marked a milestone for me—it was the first time that I have summited a mountain on snowshoes. It was only several years ago that I first hit the wintry mountain trails by snowshoe. Going solo and without formal instruction, I proceeded extremely cautiously, doing many repetitions on easier, moderate-slope trails and only going relatively short distances, turning around well before a summit. Snowshoeing in the Picos de Europa. Day 1. Perfect snow conditions. From Fuente De cable car station we needed snowshoes until we returned 6 hours later. Ascended to Colladina de las Nieves and up the peak of Padiorna (2314m). Only saw two other people on our route. Legs tired but ... just wonderful!

Last Sunday I spotted this magnificent view with the suitable .
Standing at Schachen you get the view on Alpspitze all the way to the Zugspitzglazier or what is left of it.

I hiked from Elmau to the Schachen today, along the way you get, what is probably the best view towards Alpspitze possible.

deep into a wintry wilderness is so wonderful! Here is a scene from last winter in the White , where I was just about to arrive at some beautiful frozen waterfalls. After enjoying the falls, I kept on going up the ridge before returning. Had the place to myself! I especially liked the stillness of the quiet winter in the woods.

There was fantastic weather today so I went on a 7 km hike starting at Skistua down to Grønnlia and then towards Lian.
This is my way of getting a bit away from the crowded ski loipes.
