For #WIPWednesday, some #tatting underway. I'm currently on a kick to do denim doilies, and have done 3 in #BobbinLace so far. But now I want another style.
Using the wonderful hand-dyed thread from @yarnplayer called Blue Skies.
Pattern is by Anne Orr. I recently discovered what a #TextileHistory rock star she was--art editor, writer, entrepreneur, pattern designer... and no #Wikipedia page. I'll be fixing that eventually.
@mem_somerville Great to see your #tatting, and it exists even a hashtag! This may explain why our 84 yrs old colleague with her tatting workshops is always fully booked. She teaches it in our French cultural heritage centre, in French "frivolité" (= frivolity).
Tatted bookmark is finished, and thus ends my tatting month! (Next up: mending for March.)
I didn't get around to beading or finally learning split ring tatting but I did get better at reading and following patterns as well as fixing mistakes.
Tatting month continues*. I'm still bad at remembering to read the pattern carefully and I realized today that I missed some picot joins that I'm not going back to fix, but my hands are starting to fall into a comfortable rhythm now.
I'm cycling through my less frequent crafts each month of 2024. Last month's focus was spinning.
Tatting month continues! I'm enjoying some new colours from my crochet stash, and it's probably just as well they're a bit bigger because I had to pick back a lot of mistakes today. But that was good practice too, I guess! I miss the fixable nature of knitting, though.
I made myself a #FiberGoal this year to revisit or deep dive on some crafts that I don't do as often.
I learned to shuttle tat from a friend but got more into it after a class at my local yarn shop. It used to be my go to backup travel craft because it's so small to pack, but it's been several years since I really did any. So here's my slightly wonky first attempt in a while. It's a bit lopsided, but it's a start!
I keep learning the bare minimum of tatting and then getting frustrated and giving up... 😅 This time I'm gonna stick with it! Please forgive all the horrendous mistakes, I am aware of them lol.
Feeling a bit better overall today (even though I was just blessed with a headache 😅) but the cough is a bit less violent while also having taken less meds. I was incredibly pleased to notice some mental bandwidth, so I started teaching myself a little bit of #tatting. I had stumbled across the technique a while ago & had ordered a #tattingShuttle just waiting for me to have time & energy to try it out!
I'm following a YT tutorial & I'm about 3 loops in on the pattern: https://youtu.be/QRxx-erePQM

I am the parents place today and wanted to try out the bumble-bee design from my tatting book, when I found one of my shuttles with the extra thin thread...so I tried out the butterfly design again...look how cute it looks!!!

BookWyrm: Antique Lace by Heather Toomer | Useful and well-described lace identification book (bookwyrm.social)
My review of this helpful ID book. People often ask for a good one to check on their acquisitions, and this one is reasonably priced and accessible.
