Another COVID story. The volunteer driver who took my BIL to a hospital appointment on Friday has tested positive for COVID. Apparently they already had a sore throat when they drove my BIL on a three hour both ways car journey. So 6 hours of exposure. Wouldn’t you think where vulnerable people are concerned the drivers would test prior to setting off? My sister is extremely vulnerable so we are very concerned. Now they can’t have family join them for Christmas. ( Mum and my brother)

On a lighter note. The good news is if I had fallen off my scooter and been carted off to the hospital, I, at least, had clean new underwear on! My mother would have been proud!

I am Pakeha but I do NOT want The Treaty to be tampered with. I believe there is only one reason for NACT policy on this. It’s to secure natural resources for their Corporate mates. To privatise water for instance. They don’t give a toss for the average citizen. They want division in Society. Divide and Rule!

@autisticadvocacy @actuallyautistic

Was anyone else misdiagnosed bipolar2? Rapid cycling?

I've long suspected that rapid cycling bipolar doesn't exist. Even before I figured out the autism part, I was a horrifically sleep deprived drunk--of course my emotions were a little loose.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@actuallyautistic @poloniousmonk @autisticadvocacy @Selena Yes. A dearly loved family member has BP 2. They are alive because of ongoing good Mental Health Services. They accessed via the Private Health System. They have a full and happy life now. Therapy alongside meds is essential.

I have many frustrations, but at the top of the list is the refusal of "experts" to demonstrate care and action. Here is a recent photo of a conference of the International Union of Immunological Societies. Notice anything? Crowded room of immunology experts, and not a single one of them in a mask. If these are the people we rely on to keep us safe, we may as well give up.

I did the BIG Groc Shop -- I think it's been 3 months...

CarolynStirling,

@Kenno I seem to do a big shop every week. The dogs home cooked diet is very expensive. The goods I buy every week haven’t gone down in price they’ve steadily increased unless they’re on special.

The depressing thing about being here is seeing robodebt isn't unique or even ground breaking.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@jonoabroad Wasn’t Robodebt responsible for many assessments resulting in people incurring debts that were later proven to be non existent in Australia. There was some very bad press regarding Robodebt.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@jonoabroad I’m waiting to see if NACT do the very same thing. They seem to enjoy torturing beneficiaries. My husband had the misfortunate to get a terminal illness and in the last 11 months when I was his caregiver they made life as difficult as possible. This was under the Bolger Prime Ministership. After his death and there had been some sort of review of benefits I got a letter saying they had underpaid him by $100 per week. I was so angry I told them to stick their back pay it was too late.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@jonoabroad I know someone that is getting stressed by them at the moment. The paper work is relentless. The practice of stopping payments without informing people they need more paper work continues. I think the culture of nastiness is embedded now whichever Govt is in power. I am sure some of the workers there enjoy the power they hold over peoples lives. Nobody enjoys living from hand to mouth but people often lose all self esteem and they become trapped in hopelessness of getting out of it.

I have just tried to pay for two items from two different websites using a BNZ VISA card, and have been unable to do so because I refuse to use the BNZ Mobile App. It is required as part of an extended 2FA. I am looking at moving to another supplier of credit cards anyone else had this problem?

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@bananabob There is more security on the App. I have had no issues with it at all and I buy everything online.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@bananabob My mum gets my sister to do all her online banking. My sister sends her a screen shot of all the transactions. Mum is 95 and has a smart phone. I think few oldies don’t have some brand of smart phone nowadays. My eldest daughter has taught quite a few oldies how to do online banking( she works in a library) if they get stuck she helps out. Most don’t buy online they just need to pay bills or do account transfers. They can do this using the library computers if they don’t have a phone.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@bananabob I’m sure if she’s still driving she could get all the assistance she needs from her local library. Mum took a while but she’s able to now send photos and negotiate FB which she loves as it keeps her in contact with her 32 grandchildren and great grandchildren. I think if she had someone to sit with her over a period of months she’d learn banking too. The family member she lives with hasn’t the time or the patience.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@bananabob That’s sad as from what you said she seemed to be an active lady. My daughter says some seniors come into the library just to talk to another human being. People don’t realise how lonely single seniors often are.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@bananabob Yes and my daughter really loves helping seniors and giving them some company for a little while.

I wish that grocery store price scrapping site operated in NZ (pretty sure it doesn’t). The duopoly of food stores here is awful. The cheap museli I buy went up went up around 25% in the last week or two. And of course it still had the sticker by the price stating it was a “low price!” Profiteering bastards.

CarolynStirling,

Does it really make sense to have a fixed age, above which everyone gets a UBI? That creates massive inequalities in how much of their potential UBI payments different people actually get to spend.

People with white collar jobs tend to live longer than people who physical work. Pākeha tend to live longer than Māori. Women tend to live longer than men. The more we push the retirement age up, the more stark these inequalities become.

CarolynStirling,
@CarolynStirling@mastodon.nz avatar

@KneeNeart @strypey I prefer to call it an entitlement.
