Snail shenanigans. Literally climbing over each other.

Jerusalem artichokes are pretty bombproof, but this year even they are no match for … THE SNAILS!

They’ve demolished the growing tip. Along with most of my salad, carrots, radishes, parsnips…

Nice haul of compost heap potatoes!

We had 21mm of rain overnight, but it hasn’t really penetrated the heap, so I can carry on excavating.

The temperature did get down to 0C here, and the frost has curled the top leaves of the raspberries and bitten the odd volunteer potatoes that are through. Nothing else seems to have suffered.

Well the is teeming with life and not looking too shabby at all. I do need a set up that allows me to turn it more easily though. Might find a way to subdivide the bay.

Hello parsnip! Good of you to identify yourself so clearly.

Spent much of the afternoon helping my brother with some heavy duty weeding in a gale, but the sun came through eventually and I got some salad sown and spotted this brave strawberry

I don’t know if I’ve seen one of these before, but I think it’s a mint #moth. Its wings look as though they have been embroidered. #allotment #gardening

I’m pottering in the rain this morning. I’ve brought some sweet pea seedlings up here, reinstated the cold frame, found a bonus daffodil, and been fascinated by a very small snail on the water butt. Time for coffee.

It’s been 5 weeks since I started filling this raised bed, and it’s been too wet to carry on all that time, but today I finished it - just before the rain came over again

Yes, there are things I’m meant to be doing, but the sun streaming through my kitchen window is warm and the birds are singing, so I’m just going to sit here for a minute and soak it up

Bit of a frost overnight - ice in the rain gauge and I can see where the fox has been trotting

The spring bulbs are still going for it though. I suspect they’ll get very excited when the temperatures hit double figures over the next few days.

And temperatures are in double figures so the ground is soft again and I managed to crack on with the weeding. That sack by the compost bin is full of grass that had crept in amongst the fruit.

Managed a sneaky half hour in the sunshine, cutting down/up the last of the autumn raspberry canes. There’s still frost in the shade but the sun is warm and I actually took my coat off.

What a lovely sunny morning! I moved this small blackcurrant (front right) here to its permanent location because I noticed it was already coming into bud. Nice haul of rocket, radicchio, radishes, beetroot and Jerusalem artichokes too.
