A lovely long walk this morning, along the canal and various country roads, to the aqueduct that crosses the valley floor. Felt very spring-like, this May Day, and the trees are rapidly coming into leaf. More pics to follow

Living through Thatcher, miner's strikes, Section 28, then the Blair disappointment, Iraq War, decline of welfare state and the NHS, all left a feeling of chronic decline

Now there's the Far Right, TERFs, economic stagnation

But you see, we aren't falling into the abyss. We were always there

Living in the UK is like an unending falling sensation from a height you were never at

Took a 9-mile walk this morning, which included over a 1000-foot ascent and descent..twice. Used a nearby town/village as a destination, the other side of a range of hills from us. Very much a godforsaken place with one 'local shop for local people'. Don't think I'll go there again 😀

Just outside the town, there was this pretty and very small church building for sale, tho. Not sure what anyone would do with the place. Start a satanic cult? 😈

On a side note, it's quite something to watch a prestigious US university, the leadership of an entire institution, show the idiocy of the Streisand Effect on such a scale. 'See an idea you don't like, misrepresent it grossly, have a fit, clamp down, call in the stormtroopers'. It's an old playbook that always fails, and eventually, realising they've only magnified the voices they would silence, rather than back down, the temptation is to then open fire
