Great thread from @pluralistic , or click through and read it as an essay. The “too big to care” description also grabs me right in the feels. THAT line being crossed tells me a monopoly has transitioned to oligarchy, and this is where a government, even a conservative one, has an obligation TO care. The enshittification phenomenon is a harbinger of failing democracy.

Not just like, aid workers specialized in war zone/rescue/evacuation/medics- who, purportedly, have some training and risk awareness.

WCK FFS. They just seem to be the most innocent and fundamental of the dedicated aid orgs, they get food into bellies, that’s ALL.

Netanyahu has lost the plot completely, that government has abandoned everything it stood for and it looks like the IDF has gone rogue.

Somebody in this class is now trying to argue CoViD conspiracy theory at the instructor. “Well I consider it a bioweapon so how do I show that in my analysis …”

OMG you don’t??!?! No one cares what you CONSIDER it. We’re trying to show seasonality or not in a longitudinal data set? You don’t start from what you “consider” the outcome to be?

Threads has successfully federated with atomicpoet.org.

So all questions about whether or not they will federate have been answered. More to the point, Threads is federating with my personal server.

There were doubts about whether Threads would allow federation with single-user and small user servers. There were also questions about whether they’d allow federation with non-Mastodon servers.

Well, I’m running an Akkoma+Mangane server that has two active users on it. And federation with Threads is indeed working.

@jcastroarnaud Maybe drop his handle from your replies, then - you’ll circumvent your own setting by engaging with the account.

Also please don’t make spurious reports of Threads accounts just because you don’t like that they exist … that means your admins have to engage, in order to deal with them.

Generally, you won’t find them in front of you unless/until there is an interaction, after which, you have “federated”, at least in some limited way. cc. @atomicpoet

@atomicpoet It looks to me like they were reading something into what you said that was not there at all.

It seems to me many people communicating online are people who rely on unwritten cues and context, like tone and body language, in face-to-face communications. Those are absent when we interact through screen and keyboards, but folks’ brains still feel the need to fill them in somehow - and they frequently get it wrong.

You can make some substitutions here, using any corporate/commercial monolithic site for “Twitter” and pointing out that “Mastodon” is not the network or the Fediverse, just one of many interconnecting applications available. Depends on how complicated you want to get or where your contact has their base of familiarity.
