@thepoliticalcat Yeah, Cali has had some terrible fires. We bought 3 HEPA filters (2 sm LaVoit, 1 lg BluAir) after the first BC and NE Washington wildfires we experienced here. The air was unbreathable. Thank heaven we had a heat pump. It was so hot, but you couldn’t open your windows! We could at least cool our house down.

I’m sure @PandaChronicle remembers the 2021 fires.

@thepoliticalcat That’s terrifying! Lahaina, Maui, same thing… none of the Emergency Alert Systems were working. Last summer we had a fire break out across the valley from us. We had 200 firefighters sleeping on vacant lots to put it out. Luckily, they had it extinguished in 4 days. We had GO bags in our car. This is the new normal. 🙁

@thepoliticalcat I had to update my post on smelling the wildfire smoke because I was wrong. I panicked when I smelled some fool burning green wood in his fire pit. Then later heard firetrucks. It's hard not to be on edge - you even more than me!

@PandaChronicle So sad. I think about Paradise all the time because of where we live. I met someone recently who lost their home in Paradise. They lost a lot.

It's so strange to have grown up in a state I never imagined on fire because they were so rare and it was so wet... and now we have to worry every summer.

@Pineywoozle Paradise was awful. The Lahaina fire is the one that really freaked me out. It moved so fast people had no time to respond. Seeing the burn zone is horrific. I was married in Lahaina at the old historic coral church. The pastor and his wife were our witnesses. They were so sweet. A rabbi married us (my ex now) on the lawn by the beach under a banyan tree.

I have a special place in my heart for that town and all the people who live there. 🥺

@Pineywoozle Sadly, we are all ill-prepared for what’s happening, what’s coming, and what we’re losing owing to climate change. It’s apparently too unfathomable for humans to reverse course in a meaningful way.

Just watching @SiliconJets daily reports of flights for Musk, Gates, Zuckerberg, etc makes my head explode. Meanwhile, I’m over here not driving into town for a pizza because it’s wasteful. 😕

I just read the top line of an unsolicited sales email sent via LinkedIn, “Hey Kat, let’s cut through the bs and get right to the point…”

That’s all I read before blocking and deleting.

Free marketing advice: Don’t make assumptions about your recipient’s sense of humor, especially in a sales email.

I wrote a sales letter for a national recruiting agency 20 years ago that they still use today. It opens with, “Your top competitor [brand name] just hired us.” Only used when true, but it works!

I have a story idea…

An international criminal with deep financial ties to hostile foreign governments decides to run for US president and wins. He knows his opponents will come after him for his crimes, so he places lots of new judges loyal to him on federal and Supreme Court benches. Then when he gets dragged into court by state attorneys general, those judges circumvent the cases against him. He runs for president again, silencing the a-political DOJ, and wins again!

Sound too far fetched?🤨
