I live in the Dystopian Disunited Kingdom. I'm here to be informed of corruption, nebulous networks and shady government plans.

Really, I'm just a high-functioning potato, so cut me some slack ๐Ÿ˜

My day started with a walk in the park. There was an elderly lady walking her little dog, and she decided to play with me. The lady was trying to go home, but the little one wanted to stay with me. Since we knew each other by sight, we agreed that the dog would stay with me all morning while she ran errands. In the late morning, she returned, and the dog happily went back home with her. I had the honor of spending a few hours of pure joy and carefreeness, rediscovering the pleasures of simple things.
Sometimes, in life, we should just take a few hours to stop and see the world through the eyes of a dog.

Feeding the worm farm. On the menu today food scraps, dried roses, weeds from the yard, and a lot of bedding.

Over winter the composting worms have processed so much waste, it never ceases to amaze me.

We have just for our household about 2 bins of 40 US gallons/150kg of really good worm casting that is ready to be harvested. I could have made those numbers bigger if we had more space.

What have you done for the climate today?

MostlyTato,
@MostlyTato@mstdn.social avatar

@compost
It always amazes me when I check the compost in the spring and all the butt ends of my vegetables have turned into dark, crumbly, rich compost.
OK, its not quite that simple, and it shouldn't really amaze me ( what else is going to happen?), but it still looks to me like some kind of arcane alchemy.

@MostlyTato@mstdn.social avatar

The groundwork on the allotment is now complete. It took around a year from clearance to completion.
Today I finished the steppingstone path and the lower areas, which will be sheeted over again until I'm ready to use them.
I managed to use ever single bit of stone and brick excavated from the site, even the rubble that will go to hardcore for another project.
And now its spring, so its time to start planting some rescue trees and other plants.

View up the lower section of the allotment, showing a curving stepping stone path bisecting two clear tilled areas of earth.

Most admins and mods are trying to deal with it as fast as possible but the issue is that the spam comes from so many smaller instances that we simple need to limit the instances or ban individual spam accounts otherwise they would lose all connections on a full ban.. thatโ€™s not what we want

Interestingly, after crunching some numbers John Burn-Murdoch (FT) suggests there's been an interesting switch around in both US & UK .

Historically, high turnouts have favoured 'progressive' parties (Labour/Democrats), but in the last decade this has shifted to the point where a higher turnout gives an advantage to the right.

This suggests, as so often the have got it wrong; limiting voters ability to vote (via ID requirements) may actually disadvantage them... ha ha ha

Bad - and hypocritical - enough as Starmer's screeching u-turn on genocide yesterday, it appears the entire front bench posted the SAME FUCKING TWEET. Word for word.
Spot the difference. Spoiler: there isn't one (apart from the time they were posted)

Keir Starmer 1.4 million displaced Palestinians are in Rafah, with nowhere to go. It's the gateway for aid to Gaza. An Israeli offensive there would be catastrophic. Far too many civilians have already been killed or wounded. The fighting must stop now. We need a sustainable ceasefire.

Freeports seem to be going under the radar in the UK media...

Freeports are intended to be special unregulated investment zones where the normal rules do not apply. The zones cover some large areas.

The idea is based on the old concept of charter cities, another way for big business to profiteer & money launder, potentially forcing workers into indentured labour without rights or regulation. 1/4

HIVE MIND and also maybe BRITISH HIVE MIND, here is what I need, should you have any faves to proffer:

Obscure but hilarious British tv comedies that lasted 1-3 seasons and nobody could be bothered to pick them up for streaming except some dank corner of the streaming universe, like Roku Channel or whatev.

CRITERIA:

  • preferably TVMA or 16+
  • No laugh-tracks (this disqualifies most shows from being good and, frankly, is distracting and archaic and condescending as fuck)
  • not super-popular (basically if it's like Fleabag or Green Wing and on a mainstream streaming service and internationally recognized as brilliant, I will pretty likely have seen it
  • made roughly 2008ish to present
  • has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with Ricky Gervais
  • narrative storytelling e.g. NOT faux-documentary

As some guidance, here are shows of the ilk I am in the market for (and thus have already seen [AND RECOMMEND]):

Plebs
Bluestone 42
Crazyhead
Porters
London Irish
Toast of London
Zomboat
Cockroaches
Fresh Meat
White Van Man
Time Wasters
Back
Upstart Crow
Sirens
Raised by Wolves
Detectorists
The Bleak Old Shop of Stuff

Any suggestions welcome and thank you! ๐Ÿป

Bonekickers, from 2008. It was meant to be a drama about archaeologists but got laughed at so badly it was cancelled.

Watch as they obfuscate and dissemble, issuing empty condemnation even as they continue to support the butchery. Watch as they try to simultaneously distance themselves from complicity, whilst reinforcing their support of a murderous regime.
Watch as the slimy bastards show us exactly what they are made of, whilst claiming they act with integrity.
