Holy crap! Absolute insanity. This is why we have season passes to . Even it was $189 for a single day lift ticket yesterday! For reference our season passes with no black out dates are about $550 each for adults.

3 Colorado resorts are charging $299 for a lift ticket this weekend | SummitDaily.com
https://www.vaildaily.com/news/new-lift-ticket-price-at-vail-299-for-one-day/

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@ai6yr Snowbowl in Flagstaff used to discount tickets towards the end of the season. Once in the 90s got $10 tickets in March after a massive snowstorm, I-17 & 1-40 & Hwy 89 all closed. 3 ft of powder, locals only. The best! Nowadays, Alta is up to $189, Brighton is the cheapest from $84-$145. Didn't even ski this time down.

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@ai6yr Yep. And that's not even Deer Valley prices, which are $100 more. $289 without advance purchase.

Hmm, this whole getting-the-house-repaired-after-disaster thing is most certainly slow. Kitchen tile (being replaced) has lead in the glaze, so now a special contractor has to remove the tiles... not sure how long of a delay that is, but unfortunate. Although, better to NOT have leaded tile (not that we're crushing and eating our kitchen tiles....)

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@ai6yr Ugh! Hope it is not TOO much longer.

Yay, household member most certainly sick here... cold symptoms, so a cold or COVID. I guess it was inevitable given the "pandemic is over" status in the rest of my family. Now to see if my immune system is able to stave this one off (I am feelling good, so hopefully so.) 🤞

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@ai6yr Good luck! Hoping you stay healthy! I've been trying to mask when I'm around my mom as much as possible, so hopeful I can avoid her nasty cold (probably COVID, but still testing neg.).

Nshrubs,

@ai6yr My mom & I got exposed to COVID at the lawyers office Monday. I was masked, she was not. Both of us still testing negative, but she woke up with cold symptoms this morning, so I'm sure I won't be far behind since I'm staying with her. 😐🤬

Do your children or goods inheritors a huge favor. Recycle, shred, and otherwise sort all your old paperwork. My mother-in-law, rest her soul, retained seemingly every piece of paper across 50+ years of her personal and professional life. I can see why: most of it was useful for a few months to even a decade later. But then 100% pointless for her or anyone else. There's a huge effort to go in and process that…so she didn't. Now her children have put in ~100s of hours in processing it.

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@glennf I cleaned out my dad's house this summer. He had 3 file cabinets full of student files, exams, etc. going all the way back to the 70s on top of his piles & piles of old bills & all the other papers. That was essentially my summer, because I had to have hands/eyes on every piece of paper due to SS numbers & other sensitive info.

The CDC is warning that hospitals may have to ration care because of the winter virus surge.

But it’s extraordinary to me that hospitals continue to refuse to require and provide N95 masks to prevent staff from getting sick (as well as to protect patients).

@luckytran Required in hospitals & clinics in some parts of WA again.

Providence Swedish tightens COVID, mask policy
Citing a rise in respiratory illness, local hospitals and clinics will require masks for care.

Yay, exposure notices firing off again at school. Sadly, one of my students apparently struggling after catching COVID19 mid semester :-( I suspect all of this is Thanksgiving related /travel related activity.

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@ai6yr At least you're getting exposure notices, and at least people are still reporting them. We're having a hell of a time with kids being sent to school with COVID (or who have parents/siblings at home with it) & no masks, no notice. Even staff members infecting other staff members - entire special ed staff was out with it after SPED teacher got it & still came to work.

Buy 50 cent DVDs from the library book sale pile (for stuff I will watch over and over) sure beats the price of Netflix. The free Blu-Ray/DVD rentals are an even better deal (but requires either muscle power or gasoline for transportation there). I love our library system!

Nshrubs,
@Nshrubs@mstdn.social avatar

@ai6yr My dad had hundreds of DVDs, many of them unopened, that I donated to the Salt Lake City Public Library, either for their Friends of the Library sale or for circulation. 4 large boxes full of DVDs. They were happily welcomed by the library.

    @ai6yr Ironic, in my mind, since Utah seems to be the LEAST prepared of states I've lived in when it comes to disasters. I've gotten WAY more info from WA state gov than I ever did from Utah, particularly around earthquakes. My mom & her neighbors in SLC had never even heard of bolting tall furniture to the walls in case of quakes until after the series of EQs they had in Magna in 2020. https://www.dnr.wa.gov/programs-and-services/geology/geologic-hazards/emergency-preparedness
