Came across this opinionated list of the 27 greatest queer films of all time, and I mostly agree with it.

All lists like this are up for debate. I appreciate the reasoning behind each choice, and many (most?) are pics that I would also choose. It’s from last summer, so nothing more recent than that.

Biggest TIL from this: Pedro Almodovar revealing which asshole on the jury kept BPM from getting the Palme d’Or at Cannes.

Maybe it’s time for a new #introduction

I’m a 52-year-old queer man (he/him); I’ve been married to my nonbinary spouse for 16 years now. We live in San Francisco where the Castro meets the Mission. I was blogging before the word existed, and the fediverse reminds me of what I loved about that time of my life.

In addition to the SF queer arts & drag scene, I’m interested in comics, sf & fantasy fiction, musical theater, queer history & pop culture, tarot & cartomancy, and Apple/iOS tech.

This is 52.

Despite — well, everything in this sad, crumbling year; the background noise of a world falling apart — I think my thirteen-year-old self would be so surprised at where I ended up after all this time. As a young queer growing up in the 80s, I had no sense that it was possible to reach this age. (Hard to convey just how pervasive this was.)

I’ve spent my life working with kids, and outside of that I do believe that that finding and creating moments of queer joy is a revolutionary act in the face of oncoming fascism.

So I’m looking forward to a great dinner tonight at a restaurant that Tina and I love. This weekend I’ve got book club — always a treat — and some theater. So I’m going to play my little playlist of Maggie Rogers, Chappell Roan, girl in red, and (yes) Beyoncé and get ready for all the day offers.

My friend Marke B, who is an indie journalist here in SF, just wrote this article about a MAGA candidate in Missouri who filmed herself burning two queer books — one of the books was Marke’s.

I know there’s a tendency to think this is ridiculous or whatever, but this is straight-up fascist violence, and it is really scary.

Late night dorking out — I just went through a website that has all of the lyrics for Wham and George Michael songs, and used cmd-F to search for the word “fool”.

“I know you’re not a fool…”
“If you kissed me now I know you’d fool me again…”
“You must have been kissing a fool…”

Turns out that every Wham! album and every solo George Michael album has at least one song with the word “fool” in the lyrics. It shows up on a total of 13 songs, nine of them singles.

It’s a lyric in the very first Wham! single (“Wham Rap”) and also on the last track on his very last album (“Through”, from Patience).

Looks like the last event at the Castro Theatre before it closes for renovations is Victor/Victoria this Sunday. We have tickets — I haven’t seen that film in decades, so it should be fun to see it there.

They are hoping the renovation only lasts a year, but I have my doubts.

Dumb trashy gay TV of the moment is For the Love of DILFs on OutTV.

Yes, it’s hosted by Stormy Daniels, who is delightful;
Yes, it’s a bunch of Himbos and Daddies looking to pair up and fall in “love”;
Yes, they live in DILF Mansion and are in the pool A LOT;
Yes, there are many excuses to get into their speedos;
Yes, it could be renamed Jiggle TV;
Yes, it’s refreshingly matter-of-fact about things like sex work;
Yes, the conversations are alarmingly vapid;
Yes, it takes for granted that some cast members will hook up;
Yes, it’s phenomenally dumb.

It’s all of these things, and it’s also a show that centers the desirability of older queer men and of different kinds of bodies. It says “if you are on this show, you’re hot.” It quickly and calmly brings people who are in conflict together to talk through their issues.

And a couple of times the show was much more moving than it had any right to be.
