    @neurovagrant @mttaggart They've been doing that on the CLI for a while now. Not surprising they've pulled that forward into the GUI.

    Debian Testing or Pop_OS is the way to go if you need to be on an app based distro IMO.

    Maybe it's just because I'm former military but the absolute lack of muzzle awareness in literally every pop culture entertainment thing is so ridiculous.

    If realism were factored in in the tiniest amount there would be soooo many dead or faceless characters from accidental miss fires. It's damn near rage inducing.

    Say what you will about gun control, at the very least we could foster a safer gun culture if we must have one.

    Did any of you have had any issues with Pop OS and Steam VR, especially with an Oculus Quest 2?

    I'm considering switching to, but not being able to use Steam VR and play PCVR games through Steam Link would be a major cons.

    @thegamerstavern that's not a reviews site. Just a place to report functionality with proton/steam play. Given that Steam Link is native on at least Quest headsets I wouldn't expect much of a difference between an Index and Quest. If you're not using a Quest or index then IDK, try it?

    Just reinstalled #Popos on my Framework 13 and thought I followed the appropriate instructions to get the fingerprint reader working. Turns out no.

    Ultimately found this script which got things going perfectly. https://community.frame.work/t/pop-os-script-to-enable-fingerprint/11666

    Photo of a local church from last weekends drone session. The fairgrounds across the street in the upper half of the shot.

    Is there an automated way to get orbits of oblong buildings or is the only option manual piloting?

    I was marking the center top of the building but then the drone cuts off one end or the other. Couldn't go wider due to trees.

    Studying for my Drone Pilot license. Every guide written or video trying to explain Air Traffic Patterns fails to outline the most key point. This has caused me a fair bit of struggle. Here's the missing information:

    Communication is RELATIVE TO THE PILOT's POSITION not yourself.

    This is absolutely key to understanding downwind or upwind. Without being able to put yourself in the pilots seat you'll never understand which way wind is traveling and thus position of the aircraft.

    I have finally took the time to build and configure my Raspberry Pi based OpenWrt travel router. I was tired of connecting 3 devices to a mobile hotspot. I feel empowered ... 😎

    "Go big or go home" someone said to me once. I see your witty quote and raise you going big AT home.

    Building a new NAS. Kicking it off with 3x 20TB drives. Probably going to pull over a couple of 12 TBs from the old NAS once I move files. Should bring things up to just over 60TB. 2x NVME slots for OS and Caching. Haven't quite worked out what I'm putting in those yet.

    Unraid has been mostly good but I think I'm going TrueNAS Scale this time.

    Now to get gud at ZFS

    Every species that ever existed for all of Earth’s history has or will go extinct. But humans, uniquely, have an enormous influence on who disappears when.

    Our impacts account for 96% of all mammal extinctions during the last 100K+ yrs. And if we carry on as we have been, extinction rates will continue to rise.

    The important part is recognizing that it’s not too late to change. We can. So I hope we do. 🌍

    Tekchip,
    @Tekchip@mastodon.social avatar

    @Sheril unfortunately this all includes ourselves. We aren't apart from nature much as we'd like to think so. There's still a fair chance we make ourselves extinct. :BlobhajSadReach:

    @aeronaute @coreysnipes My first winter flying my drone. Spent the better part of last weekend getting some shots. The first battery worth of flight I stood outside but after that I got in the car. Thank goodness I got the DJI RC controller and the car didn't interfere too much. Glad to see I'm not the only one using that strategy.

    Haven't quite worked out exactly what these will go into service doing. Probably use them as a tiny Kubernetes cluster while I learn Kubernetes. Then maybe part of a secondary low power backup home network for when power goes down?

    Orange Pi Zero 2W, cases off Aliexpress, Batteries with UPS mode from Amazon.

    My tests show these batteries get right around 24 hours uptime.

    Just got done updating a bunch of info about the house and house projects on my home wiki. I've been using Bookstack and it works a treat.

    Super easy to understand the layout of shelf, book, page. I'm sure some folks need something more flexible but if you're just trying to stuff some static information into a wiki it's super simple.

    I'm a #linux geek and a security enthusiast. Also, I'm a cheapskate. Last time our family was out and about, the hotel offered paid wifi, priced per device and I wasn't having it. Cue the TP-Link RE650 - a "range extender" capable of running the #OpenWRT router firmware. Performance and stability was crap when doing wifi-to-wifi bridging and the device didn't have enough juice to run #WireGuard #VPN, which is the way I connect safely to my home rack. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered the #Slate AX (#AXT1800) travel router from GL-iNet. Same concept, but half the size, a lot more juice, USB-C powered, SD slot and USB connector and so far rock solid and powerful enough to run WireGuard with cycles to spare. I'm a very happy customer! 🙂

    @scudderfish @saustrup Same! Using a much older Mango with wireguard and it works like a champ. Mostly for hotel security but also occasionally overcoming dumb restrictions on hotel wifi etc.

    Well, that sucks. Crucial.com and the ASRock B660M Pro RS motherboard manual both state that DDR4-3200 RAM should work.

    @philbaker1 do you have other ram and have been able to get it to boot? Memory controllers reside on the processor these days. Possible it's a bad proc? Just spit balling.

    Tekchip,
    @Tekchip@mastodon.social avatar

    @philbaker1 yeah I've never heard of that and it makes little sense.

    Tekchip,
    @Tekchip@mastodon.social avatar

    @philbaker1 @mangelucci I've had the best luck with Asus boards. Asrock is a close second so it seems odd you had an issue. To get the bios updated you'd have needed some other ram that actually works. However if other ram doesn't work that does strongly point to a proc or motherboard issue. Memory controllers reside in the processor so something wrong there could be a thing too. Though you'd expect a CPU failure I would expect.
