@christianselig I wrote one as well, not so much an "I'm Leaving" post as a "join me on Lemmy" post. I checked a day later and the vitriol I received was HUUUUGE lol. About 50/50 between how nobody cares if I quit (yet these total strangers take the time to tell me this) and people outraged that I was somehow insulting THEM.

It's easy to forget, especially as I follow such an intelligent type of person on sites like this, that most people are morons.😂 I mean that in a good way naturally.

Amusing story. I am relocating a captured swarm from someone's backyard this week, and they asked if they could have honey from the swarm (and I had to explain that swarm won't have honey for another year or two... and that is if we are lucky/weather works out, etc.). Made me chuckle, lol.

@ai6yr I have a friend (Michael Thomas, Michael's Bikes-he hasn't made the move to masto yet I don't think) who rescued a swarm from a piano on my back porch (they took over the piano during my 40th birthday party), and after a couple of years was giving us piano-based honey.

I have suffered at the hands of hugely evil people that Zucky defends and platforms. If I have to block every single meta user one by one, I will. I doubt I am unique.

Today's tip: don't jump up and down on a rusty bit of fence when wearing Crocs. Now, the question is when was the last time I got a tetanus shot from doing dumb things in the backyard (most certainly within 10 years, probably within 5 years... or do I just go get boosted for the NEXT TIME I do something ? Update: got the booster, which was fully covered by insurance, just because.)

My most intense and fun Field Day ever, as FD coordinator for #CVARC (18A setup this year.) I lost count of the hours weeks ago. Hard to believe it's over now...it will take days to recover from my biggest post-covid effort.

No idea how our QSO tally compares to other clubs (because it's not a contest blah blah blah) but we obliterated our score from last year. I had some ideas for the site plan this year that seemed to work and can be made even better next year.

@AE4WX 600 feet of end-to-end dipoles. There is always interference; it's about managing it rather than pretending it can be eliminated. In the end, the only major issues were a radio entering it's end-of-life phase.

@ai6yr This was what I have been assuming happened, and that the USN certainly heard it happen; decades ago SOSUS was more than sensitive enough and they are bound to have something far better now. My hypothesis was that, after hearing what happened, they sent ships to search since telling the world they knew they were dead would confirm their listening abilities, and it was a good exercise for their crews.

@mastodonmigration With the original lemmy devs being hard pro-China regime, and removing anti-China government posts and comments (on lemmy.ml and lemmygrad), be sure you look into who is running any Lemmy instance before you decide to join. I may wait until it's been forked by people without such an agenda. I'm also looking at kbin.

Staying at Reddit any longer isn't even a decision for me know; I've been active from back when it started, but now that's it's being musked I'll be out soon.

Time for a sticky post on µField Day...

µFD is a monthly ad-hoc ham meeting I put on in Ventura County, open to all hams and clubs. Some months are sponsored by one of the local clubs.

It's a short 4 hour gathering to try stuff out and make sure that portable operation will be easy and familiar if you need it in a pinch. Most months we see 10-15 stations set up.
