Blair did however assume that Scotland would remain a Labour fiefdom and continue to provide safe seats in Westminster. I believe (citation required) that in interview he regretted (a) the Freedom of Information Act and (b) Devolution.
@JackTheCat ‘A day earlier, Rishi Sunak ended his whistlestop UK tour in the port of Nigg on the Cromarty Firth, where he claimed the SNP was “completely out of touch with the needs of ordinary Scottish people” and blamed their “obsession” with independence for failing public services.’
Things like cancelling right to buy, mitigation of the two child limit, an SNHS which on most metrics (it should not be a competition) performs better than the NHS? Things like that…
@Clutha@JackTheCat The meeja bang on about it all the time. Even C4 after reporting on the comparative figures demonstrating that in most areas we did better than much of the UK (as I said this should not be a competition) used a graphic in their report on ‘failing SNHS’ 🤨🙄
@JackTheCat@Clutha I have to pull you up on this. We do have room for improvement - one of the major obstacles is Westminster but inevitably there are others within our control. The negotiated agreements (as opposed to strikes) in the SNHS continues to rankle with Westminster and never gets mentioned by the UK press…
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious Ring his company. Explain what the silly sod did and ask for a response. If nothing, just report him for dangerous driving. At least it will cause him(?) grief and time.
@MadeyeTheCarnaptious Out of interest did you ask them for an explanation and an apology? If there is someone in the car with you, simply ringing the police and reporting the vehicle and number for erratic and dangerous driving will suffice.
Its difficult to assess what % of food (or food based energy) consumed is ultra processed, but here is a chart that aggregates a number of studies to suggest the range of % for a selection of countries.... & then when you know Big Food in the USA spends more on lobbying than the Tobacco industry (which is likely to be similar in UK)... it starts to make sense.
Link that to public health & we have some more context for the UK's health crisis.
@peterbrown@ChrisMayLA6@sunflowerinrain I was reading At Home: A Short History of Private Life by Bryson. He brings together food adulteration practices in a rather horrible if compelling read in one section.
Dear Mod,
please note this post does not advocate for, nor is it intended to support spousicide in any form whatsoever. Nor is it ageist, in that it is not intended to imply that all old people are stupid and/or technically illiterate. Oh, and it is clearly not misogynist as the dead person is a man. (Not very funny when you have to explain in detail and apologize for every piece of humor in advance ....)
