HMRC haven’t charged a single company with tax avoidance despite new powers.

British Overseas Territories have failed to report firms using them as tax havens.

Two thirds of the the UK's richest earners paid less tax in 2023 than in the year before, while our hospitals and schools crumble and we bear an increasing tax burden.

It’s time for the Treasury and HMRC to get tough on the tax avoiders, so we can save our NHS and public services.

I agree. Tax is definitely not a burden.

We're part of society where activities and amenities are needed for the common good, so we should each contribute according to our ability. Taxation is one way of paying for those things.

Taxing wealth would be a fairer way to go than taxing income. Rich people have ways of minimising their income whilst increasing their wealth, thereby avoiding tax

    As someone who grew up in the 1970s I ate lots of rubbish.

    I can happily eat a curry or Mexican food for breakfast (but I know I shouldn't)
    When I was in my 20s, a friend of mine was living dangerously, convinced he wouldn't see 40..
    Like me he's 64. Unlike me, he has a 16 yo son. He gave up smoking 17 years ago and still gets out on his mountain bike every weekend.

    You are what you eat, You deserve better 🙂

    there was this talk a while ago about instances blocking instances depending on who blocks threads preemptively and who doesn't... I'm not sure what happened after that but I feel my timeline has changed since then... not for the better or worse, just different

    I asked my admin whether they intended to block Threads, they said not and no, they hadn't asked instance member's opinions.

    I chose to block that domain myself since I just don't want to hear from people that support Meta. There's enough fantastic engagement from those who have chosen the Fediverse that I don't have to help Meta screw things up for us.

    Rather than heating the whole house or even a room, you just heat you.

    It's a real shame we have such poorly insulated house here in the UK compared with other developed countries.

    BBC regularly gives platform to obscurely funded think tanks.

    No mention that these think tanks do not disclose their funding sources and we therefore do not know on who’s behalf they speak.

    Justin Web talks about the Telegraph and several other papers covering a report from the obscurely funded think tank The Policy Exchange. He said:

    “The Telegraph is amongst quite a few other paper covering a report from the research organisation, the think tank The Policy Exchange which attacks Park Run and says Park Run must protect women runners from transgender rivals as the Telegraph puts it or risk losing their funding”

    The Telegraph and similar papers are known for promotion of anti-trans propaganda.

    It is the responsibility of the BBC to make clear, the sources of the stories they cover, not just the name of faceless, secretly funded think tanks that generate them.

    Almost finished my grown up Daughter's Christmas present.
    This is a wooden hedgehog house.

    I made an inner box from 12mm OSB then clad it using home milled Cherry wood (sides & roof) and thin T&G boards in Meranti made from my Daughter's old back door.
