1 year in, working extensively with GDScript to build addons and a 15 year career writing Javascript, one of the most unintuitive languages ever written... and... this got me.

For those who don't know, Vector3.ZERO is falsy while Vector3(0, 0, 1) or any other vector is truthy. Don't rely on if statements to check if Vector3 values are set. Use if vector != null or something similar.

@krazyjakee So basically the vector is truthy when it's length would be truthy.
Out of interest, what is it your intuition would have told you otherwise?

(Personaly, i find that kind if truthyness on vectors useless, cause its bound to be more confusing than useful as is see no common use case for a true/valid vector)

Started a new project to try out MagicaCSG's new Groove Blend option, a feature I requested to the developer @ephtracy , and he delivered. 💪👍👌

Groove Blend allows you to limit Boolean operations, like addition and subtraction, to a given offset from an SDF surface, which is very effective for adding creases and panels.

I'll post updates as the scene progresses.

I've mentioned this on the other platform, but here are two games I'd really like to exist. They're sorta opposites. Both are for two players.

A: A competitive Tango dancing game, where both dancing partners are assassins trying to kill each other during the dance

B: A cooperative pro wrestling game, where neither player are trying to actually defeat the other, but just trying to put on a really good show for the audience, building suspense & creating payoffs

@Nifflas @Itty53 I thought of more of a slowed down rythm Nidhogg e.g. Hit the beat with moves, but decide if its a dance move, attack move (stab) or defend (deflect a stab), but with cooperative hp that decrease if there's not enough cooperative dancing going on and some variety in defense vs attack or even dance move combinations expand the comolexity.

When j went back to (mostly node) JS after some years of absence, i was frustrated at how unwelcoming the ecosystem seemed and had many issues setting up something that felt durable.
My js friends didn't rec my woes, "whats the issue, it isn't that hard, come on JS is easy" and then once they actually took time to LOOK at my issue they immedetialy evacuated because "Oh, thats plain JS, sorry can't help there, i only do typescript"

@vga256 yeah, thinking about it twice I see what you mean, there was a time I'd still have accepted a job at e.g. Bioware and seen EA as an necessary but a unavoidable side effect.
still, EA never fully screamed job insecurity to me while embrace seems to have bought something of a quarter of the industry just to let it go

Today my physical therapist introduced me to a technique called "neuro tagging", which essentially is where you cultivate a set of stimuli (a treasure, if you will) that strongly associates to a desired change in cognition.

Windows question. Is there a way to reveal the real path in Explorer to any folder? Be it Desktop, Dropbox, Documents, or something similar. Say I have it open in Explorer already, is there a quick button I can press to just see the real path & so I can copy it to the clipboard?

Windows seems to be set on refusing to give me the actual path, I always get the weird fake path.

I mean, its always something to learn, but usually barriers to understand and to fix are so high that it's cumbersome, and that combined with the fact you can literally optimize forever and nothing is sure until tried is a hard "oof" for me. Always feels like a lot of time with little gain

@maxim tbh it's also not very fruitful at the beginning. It's one of those topics that has to be in the back of the mind always during every engineering or scale decision(/guess) and be focused on (profiling, fixing) in ever shorter cycles over the project lifetime.

Of course at the beginning you just want to get going instead of constantly second guessing yourself with "is this good/fast enough" so I'd wager it's actually OK to not dwell on it too much, esp in preproduction

    @SecurityWriter there has been a lot of negative fuzz about brave lately, mostly about the topics you already mentioned. So I'd say you're not wrong on this.

    DuckDuckGo, while still my main search engine, also has PR issues as it slowly comes to light that they are heavily privacy-washing, challenging at least their top brass motivation. Don't know about their browser.

    I'm on Win, using FF with uBlock Origin, no issues with ads since years. Is FF in iOS so different?

    Like this is actually kinda fascinating honestly, Brother is now the best printer brand, the one that every Computer Person recommends, and is it because their printers are good? Their printers are fine, they print, whatever, no, it's because everybody else's printers have gotten Innovated out the wazoo, every innovation making them way worse, until it's gotten to the point where I wouldn't have one in the house even if it were free, and meanwhile Brother's have remained consistently Fine I Guess, which now makes them the best printer manufacturer simply by virtue of them opting out of the Who Can Get Crappiest Fastest race

    Brother have gotten to where they are now, by NOT innovating
